Danny King Wins Inaugural Three Bridges

King (pictured) became the winner of the first Three Bridges Open played
at Three Bridges Football Club on Sunday 18th November. King
started the day with a 3-2 win against Warren Grantham and went on to beat
Mick Clarke 3-0 and Doug Mason 3-0 to become Board 1 winner. In the
Semi-Finals he beat Board 2 winner Andy Gurr 3-0 and then took out Board 4
winner Tony Ayres 3-1 in the final having lost the opening leg. Ayres' route
to taking Board 4 was a 3-1 win against Bob Abbott, 3-0 against Matt Wenham
and 3-0 against Lee Ashby. In the Semi-Finals Ayres beat Board 3 winner Rob
Cross 3-0. Gurr won Board 2 beating Brian Charlton 3-1, Paul Gorringe
3-1 and Nigel Panton 3-2. Cross won Board 3 beating Kevin Reilly 3-1, Martin
Burchell 3-0 and Dave Mansell 3-2. Ayres hit three maximums on route to the
final. King hit one in the final and Roy Oxlade hit one in his Second Round
tie against Dave Mansell. King also hit a 111 finish (50,11,50). There were
33 entries with King picking up £82.50 for winning the competition, Ayres
£41.25 as runner-up and losing Semi-Finals Gurr and Cross £20.62 each.
The flying pairs competition saw 38 entries with Ty Coward and Dave Creasy
beating Steve Mecrow and Martin Burchell 2-0 in the final. Creasy and
Mansell hit maximums in the flying pairs. |
