Andy Derrick Claims His Third Bridges Open Title by Ian Holman

Sussex player Andy Derrick (pictured) won his third Three Bridges Open title on Sunday 25th January, beating Billingshurst's PDC player Tony Ayres 3-1 in the Final culminating with a 14 dart final leg. From 51 entries all Semi-Finalist were previous winners, with Derrick beating Danny King 3-1 and Ayres beating Jim Withers 3-2. Derrick won his board with wins against Anthony Morley 3-2, Dave Creasey 3-1 and Mark Davis 3-0. Ayres won his board with wins against Dan Gardner 3-0, Alex Whiteside 3-1, Duncan McCotter 3-1 and Tony Denman 3-0. Withers won his board with wins against Tony Peters 3-0, Anthony Harding 3-0, Alan Colgate 3-2 and Steve Mecrow 3-0. King won his board with wins against Chris Clewer 3-0, Andy King 3-0 and Seejay Jeffs 3-0. A total of eight maximums were recorded with Ayres and Derrick hitting two and there was one each for Steve Mecrow, Anthony Morley, Paul Russell and Jason Terry (Reigate). Duncan McCotter had the highest recorded checkout of 128, Morley had a 122 checkout, Jeffs 118 and Ayres 100. There was just five entries in the Ladies singles with Rhonda West and Elaine Chapman both making the Final for the second month running. West won again but this time the end result was 3-2. Losing Semi-Finalists were Sue Bird and Lisa Tanner. There were ten entries in the Youth Singles with Horley's Ryan Lawrence taking the title with wins against Leon Watson 2-0, Matthew Woodward 2-0, Liam Caplin 2-0 and Matthew Ansley 3-2 in the Final. Ansley made the Final with wins against Josh Mason 2-0, Tommy Sykes 2-0 and Jack Kent 2-1. Sue Bird and Dave Creasey won the Flying Pairs beating Mick Sykes and Tony Ayres 2-0 in the Final. Earlier in the Flying Pairs, Tony Denman checked out on 157. Full results from the open are listed below.
