Sussex County Super League - West Division

Divisional Play-Off (31st October 2007) by Barry Moody

Pebsham won the playoff for the County Super League Championship, beating Bevendean Reds at Brighton Trades and Labour Club on Wednesday 31st October. They equalled Wealden's record of four consecutive wins back in the late seventies, when they beat the West Division winners 5-0. The reds reached the playoff with six wins on the trot to pip Worthing to the playoff but they could only manage to win three legs against the East Division winners. Conqueror of Phil Taylor and last eight in the PDC's World Grand Prix Adrian Gray secured the title beating Craig Deeley. Man-of-the-match was Adi Boyle with a 25.91 winning average. The other Pebsham winners were Steve Barraclough, Mark Card and Darren White.

Week 9 Round-up (1st August 2007) by Dave Miles

Roffey ended the first half of the season with a defeat, losing their unbeaten run to Bevendean Reds. The Brighton based team proved too strong for Roffey on the night winning 5-4. New Sussex player Kez Botting was on form beating former County star Mark Davis, but with a number of below par performances from other players cost Roffey dear although they did rally at the end, winning the final three games through Danny King, Pete Crossley & MOM Neil Smith

[ 27.41] to give the final score some respectability. Despite losing his 100% record to Martin Baker, Dave Mansell did strike a brace of maximums.

 

Warnham visited Chichester and came away with a fine 8-1 victory. This was Warnham's second successive win and keeps them in touch with the front runners. Billingshurst's Tony Ayres (pictured) proved again to be Warnham's top man, winning the MOM award with a 25.47 avg. Other good performances came from Crawley's Phil Smith [24.24] & Martin Burchell [23.12]. Further wins from Mick Short, Clive Pearce, Steve Mecrow, Charlie Johnstone and John Dawes followed. Smith, Short & Johnstone all posted 180s, while Dawes shot out on 116.

Week 8 Round-up (25th July 2007) by Dave Miles

Roffey preserved their 100% record after winning in Lewes at the Tally Ho 7-2, Roffey's in form Kez Botting [24.24avg] got them off to a good start, and was followed by victories for Dave Mansell, Tim King, debutant Rob Metcalfe [25.05] just missed out on the MOM, while Pete Crossley's [25.91] did. Danny King & Neil Smith sealed the win.

After a run of narrow defeats, Warnham made Bevendean Blues pay dearly. Led by John Dawes (pictured) [28.35 ] MOM performance, they crushed the Blues 9-0. Further wins were gained by Chas Johnstone, Andy Alderton, Martin Burchell, Phil Smith, Mick Short, Tony Ayres & Clive Pearce. 180s posted by Alderton & Pearce, while Ayres checked out on 120 & Johnstone on 101.  This week, in the final fixtures of the first half, Roffey are the hosts against Bevendean Reds, while Warnham make the trip to Chichester.

This week, the two local sides met with unbeaten Roffey taking the match 5-4 at Roffey Sports & Social Club. Graeme Carden posted a 180 and put Roffey one-up before wins from Andy Alderton and Dorset Open winner Tony Ayres gave Warnham the lead. Roffey then hit four straight victories with wins from Tim & Danny King, Dave Mansell and Kez Botting. Phil Smith (pictured) then hit a 180 and a 141 check-out in Warnham's third win of the night before Mick Short kept the score respectable with a win in the final contest. Danny King (Roffey) was man of the match with a 27.33 average.

Mixed fortunes again for the areas two local teams, Roffey maintain their 100% record with a great 5-4 away win over Worthing, while Warnham narrowly lost 5-4 at home to Southwick. Neil Smith (pictured) was again in great form winning his match against Worthing skipper Ken Sowerby with a 24.80avg, further wins came via Graeme Carden [ 23.12], Pete Crossley [22.34], Dave Mansell [18.56] & Kez Botting [20.84].  Warnham's Tony Ayres [ 25.74] & Martin Burchell [26.08] were their stars on a disappointing night, Further wins from Billinghurst's Mick Short & Crawley's Steve Mecrow helped to keep the score respectable. Mecrow struck a 180, while outshots of 124 Burchell & 120 Ian Homewood came as some consolation.

Roffey's good start to the season carried on in week 5 with a 9-0 trouncing of Chichester, the home side restricted their vistitors to just 4 legs all night. Top performance came from Kez Botting (pictured), the Brighton based player posted a 26.84 avg to take the MOM award, Danny King struck a 25.49 avg to be a close 2nd. Other winners for Roffey were Dave Mansell, Pete Crossley, Tim King, Nigel Panton Graeme Carden, Neil Smith & Andy Gurr. Smith struck Roffeys only maximum, while Panton recorded a 103 finish. Warnham, missing some players who were competing in Las Vegas, crashed 6-3 away to Bognor, with only Mick Short [23.17 avg], John Dawes [20.33] & Ian Homewood [19.61] managing to win. Tony Ayres hit a 180 during his defeat by Bognor's MOM Mick Rogers [24.81]. Both Short 104 & Homewood 102 had good checkouts.

Warnham also won 6-3, they ended Bevendean Reds unbeaten start, thus helping to knock them off top spot. Martin Burchell was Warnham's star with a MOM performance 25.49 avg. Warnham's other winners were Phil Smith, John Dawes, Andy Alderton, Tony Ayres & Clive Pearce. Next games see Roffey at home to Chichester, while Warnham travel to Bognor.
