Finals Night (18th April 2008)

Reigning Singles Champion
Tony Ayres (pictured) of The
Railway successfully defended his title defeating team-mate Andy
Alderton 2-0. Tony partnered by Mick Short also took the doubles
title for the second season running beating John Dawes and Alan
Wyatt of Roffey SSC “B” also 2-0. He also led the Railway's winning
Trebles team partnered by Doug Foster-Hopkins and Brian Stevens
beating Peter Wickersham, Gary Strong and Tony Holland of Roffey SSC
“B” 2-1.
League Champions Broadbridge Heath Village Centre “A” completed
their double by winning the Victory Cup beating league runners up
Roffey Social and Sports Club “B” 5-4 in a close fought game that
went all the way to the last game.
The Railway continued their good form with Crystal Woodrow and Brian
Stevens winning the Mixed Pairs 2-0 over Peter and Glenda
Wickersham.
Rob Massey of Roffey SSC C won the Secretary’s Cup preventing Brian
Stevens from completing his hat trick of 3 years in a row with a
convincing 2-0 win.
Gary Kennard of the league and cup champions won the Captains Cup
defeating Ben Millman of Roffey “C” 2-1 in another close match. Gary
also took the highest finish on the night with a 160 checkout. Highest league finish
trophy went to Matt Smallwood of Roffey CC “B” whose top out-shot of
167 stood all season from the very first game.
 Proving you should never give up, the biggest cheer of Finals night
went to Roffey SSC B’s Glenda Wickersham (pictured) as she
finally won the Ladies Singles
title, after trying for 40 years!!! She overcame last years champion
Jane Trott of The Rising Sun 2-1 in a very close fought match.
Highest Ladies league finish went to Theresa Gladman of The
Gardeners with 92.
The most wins trophy play-off was won by Kez Botting of Broadbridge Heath
“A” with Peter Sands of Broadbridge Heath “B” completing the club
double by winning the most wins trophy for Division Two.
The Committee Cup winner
was Brian Stevens and the Most 180’s of the season
went to Tony Ayres with an incredible nine.

Singles (18th April 2008)

 Thirty nine players played off for the two prestigious places in the
Singles Final to be staged on finals night. This year will be an all
Railway Final with reigning champion Tony Ayres (pictured
right) once again winning
through. Ayres saw off attempts to take his crown from Doug Mason,
Wayne Caswell, Ron Clarke, Mick Short and Andy Mason.
He will meet Andy Alderton
(pictured left) who
triumphed over Terry Thornton, Andy Bollins, Kevin Downes, Ben
Millman and Kez Botting.

Week 21 Round-up (11th April 2008)

Broadbridge
Heath VC A were crowned champions of Division One this week after
defeating The Holbrook 7-2 and winning their rearranged fixture
against Roffey SSC C also 7-2. Jason Yates (pictured)
continued his good form for the newly crowned champions with a 120
finish. Roffey S&SC B take runners up spot, again by means of a 7-2
win against their clubs C side. Rob Massey hit a 180 for Roffey S&SC
C. Not to spoil the form The Railway also won 7-2 at the Gardeners
and clinch third place with Brian Stevens checking out on 110.
Finally Roffey CC B beat The Coot 5-4 with Darren Dance hitting a
maximum for the Roffey side. Division Two champions are The
Foresters as reported previously but runners up spot goes to Roffey
S&SC A who had a convincing win of 7-2 against The Windmill despite
Russell Hunt hitting a 180 for The Windmill. The Roffey side just
pipped BBHeath VC B by one point. Heath only managed a 5-4 win
against Horsham C&SC who take fourth place. Mick Reeves hit his
fourth 180 of the season for Horsham C&SC. Finally Rising Sun saved
their best win until last by beating Roffey CC A 7-2.

Captains & Secretaries Cup (4th April 2008)

 A
disappointing turnout for the Captains Cup saw only eight out of
fifteen turning up. The final will between Gary Kennard of BBHeath
VC A and Ben Millman of Roffey S&SC C. Gary won his games 2-1
against Peter Wickersham (Roffey SSC B) and 2-0 against Glyn Jones (Roffey
CC B). Ben defeated Kevin Skinner (BBHeath VC B) 2-1 and Andy Bollam
(The Coot) also 2-1. The Secretaries Cup only faired one better with
only nine representatives showing. Brian Stevens (pictured)
of The Railway will be going for his hat trick this year having won
the title for the past two years. He defeated Mick Dutka (Horsham
C&SC) 2-1 and then Jason Trott (Rising Sun) 2-0. Also after the
title this year is Rob Massey of Roffey S&SC C who won through his
half with some exceptionally consistent play beating Gary Strong (Roffey
SSC B) 2-1 and Gary Kennard (BBHeath VC A) 2-0.

Week 20 Round-up (28th March 2008)

The
Foresters were crowned Division Two champions this week by finishing
their fixtures with a convincing 7-2 win over second placed
Broadbridge Heath Village Club B leaving them ten points ahead with
only one game left for Heath. Mike Nicholls hit a consolation 180
for Heath. Runners up spot is very tight with just one point the
difference between the next three teams. So it's all to play for in
the final week. The week's other results saw Rising Sun win 5-4 at
Horsham C&SC and The Windmill win 5-4 away to Roffey CC A. In
Division One Ben Millman of Roffey S&SC C hit a 180 and Rob Massey
checked out on 127 as they beat Roffey CC B 6-3.

A continued his good form hitting finishes of 112 and 101 in their
8-1 win against Gardeners. Brian Stevens had a 113 finish for
The Railway as they were narrowly beaten 5-4 by leaders Rofffey S&SC
B and in the other game The Coot moved off the bottom with a 6-3 win
against Holbrook Club.

Week 19 Round-up (14th March 2008)

Roffey
S&SC B stay at the top of Division One this week by means of a 6-3 win
over fourth placed Roffey CC B. Second placed BBHeath VC A find themselves
only seven points behind with a game in hand after inflicting a crushing
8-1 defeat on The Railway. There were 180’s from Andy Alderton and Ian
Russell of The Railway and Jason Yates (pictured) of BBHVC A
continued his great form of late by hitting a 177 which helped finish the
deciding leg of his game off in just 14 darts. The Holbrook won over
Roffey SSC C 6-3 helped by a second 180 of the season from Graham Stevens.
The Gardeners elevated off the bottom this week courtesy of a walkover 9-0
when The Coot failed to show.
Division Two sees the Foresters leading
at the moment having enjoyed a good 6-3 win over The Rising Sun but
BBHeath VC A having beaten Roffey SSC A 5-4 are just five points behind
with a game still in hand.

Victory Cup Semi-Finals Round-up (7th

In a what will
be a repeat of last year, the Victory Cup Final will be contested between
BBHeath VC A and Roffey S&SC B. Roffey S&SC B overcame Roffey CC B 7-2 and
in a closer match BBHeath A beat The Railway 5-3. Highlights of the week
were a good pairs game from Railway where, coming from a leg down,
Brian Stevens (pictured) hit 148 out followed up with a 120 finish
from partner Mick Short. Singles leg of the week was undoubtedly a superb
11 darter by Jason Yates of BBHeath VC A who hit 137,180,140 and 44 out.
Kez Botting also hit a 180 for BBHeath.
Two catch up games played this week
were in Division One Roffey S&SC C moved off the bottom by beating The
Coot 6-3 and in Division Two Roffey CC A lost at home to the Rising Sun
4-5.

Week 18 Round-up (29th February 2008)

The
top of the league clash in Division One saw leaders Roffey S&SC B overcome
second place BBHeath VC A 5-4, keeping them on top spot, nine points ahead
but Heath, now pushed down to third place courtesy of The Railway
defeating The Coot 7-2, still have that game in hand. The top clash
undoubtedly included the game of the week with BBHeath's Jason Yates drawn
against Roffey’s Gary Strong (pictured). Jason hitting a 12 dart
opening leg that included a 180 and a 151 finish. Undeterred Gary came
back “strong” to clinch the game 2-1 also with a 180 and a 110 finish of
his own!
Roffey CC B remain in fourth place
having enjoyed another good win this week over The Holbrook 6-3, the match
included a nice 119 finish from Graham Stevens of Holbrook. Despite home
advantage Roffey S&SC C went down 5-4 to visitors The Gardeners.
Its all change at the top of Division
Two with Roffey S&SC A slipping up. They went down at home to the Rising
Sun 3-6. Foresters winning 5-4 at home against Roffey CC A move to top
spot. BBHeath VC B slip to third place having had their bye but now have a
game in hand as do Horsham C&SC who enjoyed a good 6-3 win over Windmill
keeping them not far behind in fourth.

Week 17 Round-up (22nd February 2008)

Some
superb darts thrown this week including Ron Clarke (pictured)
hitting his eighth maximum of the season helping Roffey SSC B hold onto
their lead at the top of Division One with a 9-0 thrashing of The
Holbrook. Second place BBHeath VC A also won 9-0 at home against The Coot
assisted by 180’s from Ken Sowerby and Gary Kennard who also hit a neat
108 finish. Jason Yates of Heath struck the seasons second highest finish
with a nice 138. Well done to Wendy Wilmot of The Coot who also hit a 180.
Roffey CC B had their best win of the season turning over The Gardeners
also 9-0 with Glyn Jones hitting a 180 and Matt Smallwood finishing off
112. Railway beat Roffey SSC C 7-2 and remain in third place, helped by
finishes of 105 from Brian Stevens and 100 from Tony Ayres. Rob Massey hit
a 180 and finished off 119 for Roffey.
In Division Two all top three teams won
5-4 away from home and so is all to play for with only three games left
and still only one point separating BBHeath VC B on 79 and Roffey SSC A
and Foresters on 78 points. Peter Sands from BBHeath VC B checked out 110.

Week 16 Round-up (15th February 2008)

Roffey
S&SC B lead Division One this week on 110 points having won a convincing
8-1 at The Coot. BBHeath VC A and The Railway are on 102 points joint
second but Heath having that vital game in hand. BBHeath VC A beat Roffey
S&SC C 7-2 while Railway had a 6-3 win at Roffey CC B. Holbrook beat
Gardeners 5-4. BBHeath VC A ‘s Jason Yates hit his third 180 this season
and Alan Wyatt (pictured) of Roffey SSC B hit his second.
It's even closer at top of Division Two
this week with just one point separating the top three teams. BBHeath VC B
won 6-3 against Rising Sun, Roffey SSC A beat Horsham CSC 5-4 whilst
Foresters enjoyed a good 7-2 win over Windmill.
This all leaves BBHeath VC B on 74
points with Roffey SSC A and Foresters close second with 73 points.
Horsham CSC are nine points further behind but still have that game in
hand.
Most wins in the league so far in
Division One sees Andy Alderton and Tony Ayres both from The Railway on
14.
Division Two has Pete Sands of BBHeath
B on 13 and close behind on 12 is Nicky Dunn from Roffey SSC A. Tony “180”
Ayres is proving his nickname leading the most maximum scores this year so
far with an incredible EIGHT!!

It’s
close at the top of Division One with Roffey SSC B on 102 points with
Railway following on 96. Third placed BBHeath VC A are closing in with a
good run of wins making 95 points with a game in hand! Two maximums this
week from Gary Kennard and one from Jason Yates both of BBHVC A and one
from Graham Stevens of The Holbrook Club.
High out shots this week from the Gardeners,
Gordon Lean 130 and Alan Sturt 119. Jim Bain (pictured) had a 120
out for BBHeath VC A whilst Darren Dance finished 100 for Roffey CC B.
Being even tighter at the top of Div 2 it’s all
to play for with just 2 points separating top three teams. BBHeath VC B
and Roffey SSC A lead the way with 68 points followed by The Foresters on
66 and in fourth place Horsham CSC on 60 but also with a game in hand!!

Trebles Cup (1st February 2008)

Eighteen
teams of three battled it out at Roffey Social and Sports Club for the last
two prestigious places that will contest the 2008 Horsham and District Darts
League Trebles final. Good darts thrown all night included 180’s from Jason
Yates (BBHVC ”A”), Gary Strong (Roffey SSC ”B”) and Doug Foster Hopkins
(Railway). Gary also
had a 109 out shot, whilst Terry Thornton (also Roffey SSC ”B”) finished on
100.
Qualifiers on the night were: Peter Wickersham, Gary Strong and Tony
Holland of Roffey SSC “B” (pictured). They defeated teams from The
Foresters (Gary Lynch, John Lynch, Rob Rowland), Roffey SSC “A” (Rob
Welfare, Colin Marcham, Martin Loates), The Foresters again (Mike Dancy, Ken
Leggatt, Paul Gettings), and the semi final saw them have a good win over
fellow team mates from Roffey SSC “B” (Ron Clarke and PDC Stars Andy Mason
and John Dawes). On finals night they will play The Railway trio of Doug
Foster Hopkins, Brian Stevens and Tony “180” Ayres. They had wins over
BBHeath VC “B” (Pete Sands, Nathan Nichols, Kevin Downes), BBHeath VC “A”
(Gary Kennard, Kez Botting, Jason Yates), and Roffey SSC “B” (Alan Wyatt,
Terry Thornton and Doug Mason) in their semi. |
Week 14 Round-up (25th January 2008)

Broadbridge Heath Village
Centre A picked up a second successive 9-0 win this week, beating sixth
placed Holbrook Club in Division One and leaving themselves just six points
off top spot with a game in hand. Leaders Roffey Social & sports Club B won
7-2 away to Roffey Social & Sports Club C while second placed The Railway
beat Gardeners by the same score. Fourth placed Roffey Cricket Club B won
6-3 at The Coot.
In
Division Two there were just two games played with leaders Roffey Social &
Sports Club A beating The Windmill 5-4 and Horsham Cricket & Sports Club
beating Broadbridge Heath Village Centre B 5-4. |

Roffey Social & Sports
Club B extended their lead at the top of Division One this week with a 6-3
win against nearest rivals The Railway. Broadbridge Heath Village Centre B
whitewashed bottom side Gardeners to keep in touch in third spot. Roffey
Cricket Club B are a further twenty points behind in fourth after a 7-2 win
against Roffey Social & Sports Club C. The other top flight match this week
saw Holbrook Club beat The Coot 5-4.
The
Foresters narrowed the gap at the top of Division Two to just two points
despite a 5-4 defeat away to Broadbridge Heath Village Centre B. Third
placed Horsham Cricket & Sports Club won by the same score at the Rising Sun
and The Windmill beat Roffey Cricket Club A 6-3. |

Week 12 Round-up (11th January 2008)

In Division 1 this
week reigning champions Railway had a slip up, suffering a 6-3 loss at
Broadbridge Heath VC A despite Tony Ayres scoring his eighth 180 of the
season. Roffey SSC B took full advantage and going back on top by winning
7-2 at Roffey CC B. Maximums from Ron Clarke (pictured), his sixth
this year, John Dawes and Gary Strong. The Coot had a good 7-2 win over
The Gardeners whilst despite being at home Roffey SSC C went down 4-5 to
Holbrook.
In Division 2 leaders Roffey SSC A find
themselves with only a two point advantage now having lost 4-5 at home to
Broadbridge Heath VC B. Foresters are catching them after at good 7-2 win
over Rising Sun. In this match there were finishes of 115 from John Lynch
(Foresters) and 102 from Jason Trott (Rising Sun). Roffey CC A find
themselves glued to the bottom after losing 8-1 at Horsham CSC who are now
in third place and only six points behind, with a game in hand over second
placed Foresters.

Week 11 Round-up (4th January 2008)

Its
tight at the top of Division One! This weeks results have left The Railway
and Roffey SSC B both on 75 points.
Despite going two down at home against
BBHeath VC A, Roffey SSC B team rallied to eventually seal a 6-3 win assisted
by some slick finishing of 107 and 106 by Pete Wickersham (pictured)
and a maximum 180 scored by Andy mason. To add to a great match Kez
Botting shot out on 130 ! (60,20,Bull). The Railway also at home, having
won that extra one match, secured top position by overcoming The Coot 7-2
helped by yet another max from Tony Ayres and a 102 finish from Mick
Short. The Gardeners secured their first home win of the season defeating
Roffey SSC C 5-4. Holbrook Club also at home went down 3-6 to visitors
Roffey CC B who still remain strongly in fourth place.
In Division Two, despite a 130 checkout
from Stu Worsfold, The Rising Sun lost 4-5 at home to leaders Roffey SSC A
whilst also despite a 116 finish from Bob Stoner, second placed Foresters
went down by the same score to Roffey CC A who recorded a superb win,
their first of the season!

Pairs Cup Competition Round-up (14th
December 2007)

Twenty-two
Pairs battled it out to those last two prestige places that will make up
the final of the Horsham & District Darts League Pairs Cup on finals
night. The top half of the draw saw John Dawes and Alan Wyatt of Roffey
SSC “B” squeezing through defeating Andrew Walker and Matt Smallwood
(Roffey CC “B”) 2-0, Nick Dunn and Bill Barnes (Roffey SSC “A”) 2-1, Colin
Johnson and Paul Tidy (The Coot) 2-1 and another Coot pair Andy Bollam and
Trevor Tucker 2-0 in their semi final. The bottom half saw reigning
champions Mick Short and Tony Ayres of the Railway steaming through their
games with straight 2-0 wins against Nathan Nicholls and Kevin Downes
(BBHVC “B”), Glyn Jones and Phil Smallwood (Roffey CC ”B”) and Terry
Thornton and Gary Strong (Roffey Roffey SSC “B”. A superb fight back from
losing the first leg of their semi final against fellow Railway pair Andy
Alderton and Brian Stevens, saw the champions reach the final again this
year by eventually winning 2-1 with Tony Ayres clinching the game by
hitting his favourite double 18. The only maximum hit on the night was by
The Coots Paul Tidy who also had a 112 checkout. Pictured
above are the finalists Alan Wyatt, John Dawes, Tony Ayres & Mick Short.

Week 10 Round-up (7th December 2007)

Three
teams still jostling for that top spot in Division One with all having
convincing wins away from home. Roffey SSC “B” achieving a whitewash at The
Holbrook with Broadbridge Heath VC “A” gaining the same result away at The
Coot assisted by a 100 finish from Jim Bain (pictured). Railway
followed up with a good 8-1 result at Roffey SSC “C” helped by yet another
180 from Tony Ayres, his sixth already this season! Still improving Roffey
CC “B” strengthened their fourth spot with a convincing 7-2 win over
Gardeners despite 180’s from Rob Gladman and Alan Sturt. Karen Sparling
shooting a great Bullseye, Double 7 finish for Roffey.
In Division Two, Roffey SSC “A” remain at the top
after a 7-2 over struggling Roffey CC ”A”. Tight for second place are
Foresters and Broadbridge Heath VC “B” both having won 6-3 against Horsham
CSC and Windmill respectively. |

Mixed Pairs & Ladies Competition Round-up
(30th November 2007)

Railway’s
Brian Stevens and Crystal Woodrow and Roffey SSC B couple Peter and Glenda
Wickersham will battle it out for this seasons mixed pairs title on finals
night. The Railway pair defeating Trevor Tucker and Wendy Willmot (The
Coot), team mates Tony and Kerry Ayres (Railway) and Gary and Monica Kennard
(BBHVC A). Stevens hitting a 180 and a superb under pressure 99 out (19,
Tops, Tops) along the way. Peter and Glenda beating Andy Alderton and
Barbara Cooper-Johnston (Railway) and Andy Bollam and Sarah Howells (The
Coot) in their half of the draw.
Glenda Wickersham will also contest the ladies
single final having ended the hopes of Kerry Ayres and Wendy Willmot to play
Jane Trott who defeated Crystal Woodrow and Monica Kennard. |
Week 9 Round-up (23rd November 2007)

The
top three sides all picked up wins in Division One this week leaving a 20
point gap between third and fourth positions in the league table. Tony
Ayres (pictured) continued his excellent form with two maximums to make
it five in eight games for second placed The Railway as they beat Roffey CC
B 6-3. Ian Russell also hit a 180 for The Railway. Leaders Roffey S&SC B
beat The Coot 6-3 with Keith Channell hitting the maximum score for The Coot
and Trevor Tucker checking out on 100. Third placed BBHeath VC A narrowly
beat Roffey S&SC C 5-4 while Holbrook Club won 7-2 away to Gardeners.
In
Division Two things are much closer with eight points separating the top
five clubs. The Foresters had the best win of the week 8-1 away to The
Windmill. Horsham C&SC beat league leaders Roffey S&SC A 6-3 and BBHeath VC
B slip to third after a 5-4 defeat at the Rising Sun. |

Week 8 Round-up (16th November 2007)

It's as you were at the top of Division One as the top three all won 8-1.
Leaders Roffey Social & Sports Club "B" beat The Gardeners, The Railway beat
bottom side Holbrook Club, & unbeaten BBHeath VC "A" beat fourth placed
Roffey Cricket Club "B" to leave them a massive eighteen points adrift.
Roffey Social & Sports Club "C" moved off the bottom following a 5-4 win at
The Coot.
The battle of the top two in the Second Division resulted in a 7-2 thrashing
of The Foresters by leaders Roffey Social & Sports Club "A.” BBHeath VC "B"
took full advantage to jump into second spot after beating bottom side
Roffey Cricket Club "A" 8 - 1 leaving them nine points behind The Windmill
who beat Rising Sun 5 - 4. |

Victory Cup Quarter-Finals Round-up (9th

The quarter finals of the Victory Cup produced no upsets as the top four
teams in the league all cruised through to the semi-finals. All four games
ended 7 - 2, Roffey Cricket Club "B" being the only home team to win,
beating second division Foresters. The only other lower league side Horsham
C & SC, went down to holders Roffey Social & Sports Club "B" who were helped
by Gary Strong’s 13 dart 501 & Ron Clarke's 111 check out. BBHeath VC "A"
won the first five games at the Holbrook Club to book there place in the
next round. The Railway had what looked to be the trickiest tie but they
easily won at The Coot with both Tony Ayres & Mick Short firing in 180's. |

Week 7 Round-up (2nd November 2007)

Roffey Social
& Sports Club "B" returned to winning ways inflicting an 8-1 defeat on
bottom side Roffey Social & Sports Club "C", Terry Thornton from the "B"
side checked out on 131. The Railway kept up the chase, winning by the same
score at The Gardeners. BBHeath VC "A" dropped back a point despite winning
7-2 at Holbrook Club. The divisions other game resulted in a 5-4 win for
Roffey Cricket Club "B" over The Coot, despite Andy Bollans 180 & Sarah
Howells exhibition style finishing, going out on 80 with two double tops.
Matt Smallwood hit a 100 finish for the cricketers.
In Division
Two Roffey Social & Sports Club "A" moved back to the top of the league
after beating Windmill 6-3. Horsham C&SC beat BBHeath VC "B" 6-3 to jump
into second place. The battle of the bottom sides Rising Sun & Roffey
Cricket Club "A" went the way of the Sun 5-4 a result that leaves the
Cricket Club firmly rooted to the bottom. |
