Hall & Woodhouse LogoThe Mixed Pairs concluded the seasons action with eighteen pairs taking part at Roffey Social & Sports Club. Eventual winners were Roffey Club's Pete and Glenda Wickersham, the Roffey husband and wife duo had to see off some tough opposition on route to the title. Knockout Cup Final Round-up (14th May 2009) by Dave Miles
Pete WickershamAfter their surprise win in the semis over the Rising Sun, the Roffey Club turned in another great performance to beat the favourites from Crawley, the Pelhams. With the tie level at 4-4, it was the experienced veteran Pete Wickersham (pictured) who beat Sussex Youth player Rob Metcalfe 2-1 to clinch the Knockout Cup for Roffey. The Consolation Cup proved to be just as exciting, with the Plough Lower Beeding edging it 5-4 over the Kings Arms B.
Officials Competitions (7th May 2009) by Dave Miles
Kez BottingDespite a lack of entrants, mainly from the B Division, a successful evening was had. In the A competition twelve players fought for the title won last year by Roffey's Gary Strong. Strong was beaten this time in the Quarter-Finals by Mark Knight of Kings Arms. Knight in turn then was beaten by the eventual Champion Kez Botting (pictured) of the Pelhams. Earlier Botting saw off the challenges of the Rising Sun's Andy Mason and in the Final John Dawes. Only six turned out in the B Competition out of a possible 24, but the Kings Arms B was well supported, as team mates Chris Shambrook and Andy Smith contested the Final with Shambrook emerging the winner. In the Landlords Competition another poor turn-out  with just five players saw Pelhams' Steve Horn take the title beating Sandy Williams of the Kings Arms in the Final.
Catch-up (7th May 2009) by Dave Miles
In an outstanding fixture in the B Division Springbok beat The Fountain 5-4.
Knockout Cup Semi-Final Round-up (30th April 2009) by Dave Miles
Andy Gurr
The top four sides in the A Division made up the semi final line up of the Knockout cup.  Leaders Kings Arms were drawn to play second placed Pelhams, while the third and fourth placed sides Rising Sun and Roffey Club met each other. Surprisingly both the winners comfortably won through to the final. Pelhams ended the Kings Arms hopes of a League & Cup double, when beating them 6-3, with Andy Gurr's (pictured) brilliant 170 checkout the evenings highlight for the Pelhams. Roffey cruised past the Rising Sun 7-2 in a surprise score in the other Semi. In the Consolation Cup, the B Division's newly crown Champions Kings Arms B will face the Plough of the A Division, after the Arms B beat the Norfolk Arms 5-3, and the Plough overcame the Star again by a 5-3 scoreline.
Week 22 Round-up (23rd April 2009) by Dave Miles
Hall & Woodhouse LogoThe Gate from Rusper made the A Division Champions King Arms work hard for their 5-4 win, leaving the Arms ten points clear at the top of the Pelhams who finished the season with a 6-3 victory over the Plough with Derrick Furminger striking his second maximum of the season for the Crawley side. Rising Sun could only win 5-4 over the Windmill to finish third while Roffey Club's great 9-0 win over the relegated Fountain B leaves them in a fine fourth place. The Three Compasses were awarded a 5-0 walkover, as the Norfolk Arms didn’t show, a five point penalty was imposed on the Roffey side. Chris Shambrook hit a fine 116 finish for the Kings Arms B, to help his side clinch the B Division title with a 7-2 victory over the Fountain, leaving the Dog & Bacon as runners up after they could only post a 6-3 win over the Wooden spoon winners Dog & Duck. Springbok B are promoted as the third placed side following a 6-3 win over Windmill B while another 6-3 win came for the Southwater Club as they beat the Bear to finish in the top half of the table. Steve Haughton's 116 checkout inspired the Star to a great 8-1 win at the Springbok Club, and in the final match the Rising Sun B overcame the Crown 6-3.
Week 21 Round-up (16th April 2009) by Dave Miles
Hall & Woodhouse LogoThe Kings Arms clinched their second successive Championship by beating the Rising Sun 5-4 in Billingshurst, needing just two points from their remaining two matches, they retained the title won last season with a game to spare. Pelhams need just two points from their final game in order to take the runners up place. This week they put the Windmill to the sword, winning 8-1.  Roffey will finish fourth following their 7-2 win over the Three Compasses, this result also leaves the Compasses safe from relegation, but the Sussex Barn's 5-4 defeat by the already relegated Fountain B also condemns them to the drop, Mark Greet struck a maximum for the winners. The Norfolk Arms are ending the season on a high, when recording their second 5-4 victory on the trot when beating the Gate. Kings Arms B could make it a unique double if they can triumph in the B Division, because this week's 8-1 win over the Dog & Duck leaves them in pole position with one game to play. Just one point adrift of the leaders are the Dog & Bacon. The Horsham side put in a brilliant performance to beat third placed Springbok B 7-2, leaving Len Cole's 101 checkout just a consolation for the Springbok side. The Star played two fixtures against the Crown this week and ended up losing both, by 6-3 and then 5-4, while the Rising Sun B played a double header with the Windmill B, winning 7-2 (14-4 overall). The Fountain clinched back to back victories when beating the struggling Bear 7-2, that wins leaves them in a top five position, the best they have ever achieved since joining the League 10 years ago. Finally the Southwater Club posted a second successive win by beating lowly Springbok Club 6-3.
Knockout Cup Round-up (9th April 2009) by Dave Miles
Hall & Woodhouse LogoIn the Quarter-Finals of the Knockout Cup, the leagues top four sides all won through to the Semi-Finals later in May. Kings Arms beat the Windmill 6-3, Rising Sun beat the Dog & Bacon 7-2 and Roffey saw off the Three Compasses comfortably 8-1 while the Pelhams were awarded a 5-0 walk-over as their opponents Fountain B failed to show. The Norfolk Arms were made firm favourites to win the Consolation Cup after a resounding 8-1 victory over the Fountain. Also joining them in the Semis will be the Star, who overcame the Bear 6-3, and the Kings Arms B who came through 5-4 against the Crown. The final Quarter -Final tie between the Dog & Duck and the Plough had to be postponed due to illness.
Week 20 Round-up (2nd April 2009) by Dave Miles
Mark KnightIn an high scoring encounter between the A Division leaders Kings Arms and the Plough from Lower Beeding, two maximums were posted, and the Arms Matt Hoyte hit a fine 108 finish, as the Arms moved closer to retaining their Championship won the previous year with a 7-2 victory. Highlights of the evening were the Plough's James Ulloa's surprise win over PDC star Tony Ayres, and fellow team mate Luke Webber's maiden 180, not to be outdone the Arms' Mark Knight (pictured) struck his fourth maximum of the campaign. Pelhams were made to struggle for their 5-4 win over Roffey Club, coming from 5-0 down the Roffey side took the final four games to dent any hopes of the Ifield side challenging for the title, Mick Clarke did strike a 180 for the winners. The Rising Sun closed to within three points of the Pelhams following their 8-1 trouncing of the lowly Sussex Barn. Steve Collins hit a 108 finish to help the Norfolk Arms clinch a 5-4 win at the Windmill, while Keith Hodges's 120 checkout spurred on the Three Compasses to a 6-3 win over the Fountain B. The Dog & Bacon drew level with the Kings Arms B at the top of the B Division, after beating them 5-4, now only the Arms better number of 180's scored keeps them top, Paul Adams hit a great 118 finish for the Arms, all to no avail. Springbok B stay a distant third despite posting the Divisions best win, beating stable mates Springbok Club 8-1, while fourth placed Star lost ground on the Springbok B following their 5-4 defeat by the Fountain. Also grabbing a 5-4 win were the Crown, they beat Warnham's Dog & Duck,  the Southwater Club stay mid table after beating the Rising Sun B 6-3. In the final game, the Windmill B recording a much needed 7-2 victory over the Bear to move out of the bottom three.
Week 19 Round-up (26th March 2009) by Dave Miles
Mark KnightThe runaway leaders of the A Division, Kings Arms suffered their first reverse of the season when going down 5-4 to the Pelhams who's win cements their second place in the table, despite 180s from Tony Ayres, Mark Knight (pictured) & Matt Hoyte, the leaders couldn't find the doubles to trouble the Ifield side, who ended the great sixteen match unbeaten run of the reigning champions. Rising Sun will need the Pelhams to slip up, if they have any hope of replacing them for second spot, and last weeks 7-2 defeat of near neighbours Norfolk Arms may not be enough to help their cause, but fourth placed Roffey Club did slip up, when going down 6-3 at the Gate, who hold a strong fifth spot. Barry Dumbrill struck a maximum for the Windmill to help his side defeat the Plough 5-4, and the Three Compasses strengthened their chances of avoiding relegation by thumping their closest rival Sussex Barn 6-3. Just one point separates the top two in the B Division, with both sides assured of promotion after their latest victories. Leaders, Kings Arms B rocked third placed Springbok B 8-1, while the Dog & Bacon won 7-2 against lowly Windmill B. The Bear posted a much needed win, by beating bottom side Dog & Duck 6-3, but the Crown from Alfold did spring back from the bad news received at the beginning of the week that the Crown had to temporary close, to thump Southwater Club 7-2, perhaps they should play all their games away. The Rising Sun B put in a solid performance in beating the Star 6-3, a defeat that probably ends any hope of a top three place for the Roffey side. The match between Springbok Club and the Fountain, was postponed till a later date.
Singles Competition (19th March 2009) by Dave Miles
Kez BottingKez Botting (pictured), Brendan Hyde & Tamzin Hindle all hit Gold during the A Division, B Division and Ladies Singles competitions played at Roffey Social & Sports Club Over sixty players competed, all hoping to win one of the three titles at stake. Pelham's Botting who was last seasons losing finalist in the A competition went one better this season by taking the A Division title, winning it for the first time. On his way to the title he defeated reigning champion Tony Ayres 2-0 in the semi-finals, before that he had earlier ended the hopes of Pete Wickersham, Dave Critchley & Warren Grantham. In the final he faced teammate Rob Metcalfe, who himself had overcame the challenges from Arron Bryant, Steve Horn, Steve Collins and in the semis Alan Wyatt 2-1. The more experienced Botting prove too powerful against the Sussex youth player, by taking the title with a 2-0 victory. A new Champion was going to be crowned in the B Division competition, as last seasons Champion Tony Lamport didn't defend his title. The Springbok B's Brendan Hyde duly become that new Champion, beating Kings Arms B's Paul Adams 2-0 in the Final. Earlier, Hyde beat off efforts from Steve Haughton, Paul Sweeney and in the Semis Andy Smith, while Adams came through by defeating Marcus Syversson, Chris Shambrook, then Simon Smith in the Semis. Tamzin Hindle celebrated moving to a new house, by finding the time to be crowned the queen of the League in the Ladies Competition, with Susie Marsh last years winner not able to defend her title. The Southwater Club star proved too strong for former Champion, the Rising Sun's Jane Trott, winning 2-0. On her way to victory Hindle overcame two more former Champions in Tina Marley and Audrey Bowman and  new upcoming star Kirsty Plummer, while the experienced Trott came through tough battles with Sue Rogers a former winner and Sandy Williams. No 180s were struck on the night, but a host of high finishes were scored, notably  Matt Hoyte's great 156, making the Kings Arms players effort the seasons best.. Other fine finishes came from Rising Sun's Doug Mason 112, a 107 from Metcalfe and a 106 from Botting.
Week 18 Round-up (12th March 2009) by Dave Miles
Hall & Woodhouse LogoAfter the previous blank week, due to the cancelling of the Pro-Dart night, it was back to League action this week where A Division leaders Kings Arms visited the Windmill in Partridge Green, and had to settle for a hard earned 6-3 win, with Barry Dumbrill's 115 checkout for the Windmill the highlight. Second placed Pelhams narrowed the gap between themselves and the Kings Arms to thirteen points following their 8-1 thumping of the Norfolk Arms. The Rising Sun stay third after beating fourth placed Roffey Club comfortably 7-2, and the Gate from Rusper cement a top five spot following a narrow 5-4 victory over lowly Sussex Barn. The Plough hold sixth spot after beating the Fountain B 6-3, a defeat that virtually condemns the Fountain to the B Division next season. In the B Division, the leaders Dog & Bacon were surprisingly beaten by the Rising Sun B 5-4, leaving them nervously looking over their shoulders at the Kings Arms B who are now just six points adrift following their 8-1 beating of struggling Windmill B, and with a game in hand over the leaders. Springbok B hold on to third place despite losing 5-4 to the Bear, but hot on their heels are the Star and The Fountain, with both sides posting 7-2 victories, The Star beat the Southwater Club, while The Crown were the Fountain's victims, while in a bottom of the table clash, Springbok Club got the better of the Dog & Duck 6-3.
Pairs Competition (26th February 2009) by Dave Miles
Hall & Woodhouse LogoEighty players competed at Roffey Social & Sports Club all trying to win one of the two pairs titles up for grabs. In the A competition, BBHVC A's Jason Trott & Ant Caswell progressed through to the final by beating Pelhams Andy Gurr & Rob Metcalfe, then in the semi's team-mates John Dawes & Alan Wyatt. Also through went Mark Knight & Nigel Wakefield, the Kings Arms duo had early beaten off challenges from Roffey’s Terry Thornton & Gary Strong, Dave Miles & Dave Critchley of Pelhams, then in the semis another Pelhams duo Graeme Cargan & Derek Furminger. The final was a close fought affair, before the experienced Knight & Wakefield added the Doubles crown to the Trebles title won earlier in the season. The B competition saw the Rising Sun duo of Rick Buckley & Matt Goldsworthy, beat Dean Woodhall & Percy Gotcher from the Dog & Bacon, then Springbok B's Marcus Syverson & Brendan Hyde, before winning the semi-final against team mates Paul Piggot & Will Ransom.  In the Final they met Simon Smith & Gareth Syverson, the Springbok B pair fought their way to the final by ending the hopes of Southwater Club's Steve Hindle & Ben Ferguson, then the Fountains Finch & Light, and in the semis, Ashley Hammond & Graham Light from Southwater Club. The final was eventually won by the Springbok B duo, winning 2-0. During the event, Mark Liversy Kings Arms B, and Sussex youth player Warren Grantham of the Gate hit 180’s, while Mark Knight and Simon Smith hit 103 & 100 out shots respectively.
Week 16 Round-up (19th February 2009) by Dave Miles
Andy GurrIn the A Division, the Kings Arms recorded another 9-0 victory, their win over the Sussex Barn was their ninth 9-0 of the season, leaving them in a strong position to retain the Championship they won last season. They now have a fifteen point lead over Pelhams, after the Crawley side played a double-header at the Fountain B, winning 8-1. Andy Gurr's (pictured) 127 finish for the Pelhams was the weeks only notable highlight. Rising Sun drop down to third following a disappointing 6-3 win at the Three Compasses, and Roffey Club beat near neighbours Norfolk Arms comfortably 7-2 to stay fourth. The Plough in Lower Beeding made home advantage pay dividends by snatching a fine 5-4 win over Rusper's Gate. B Division leaders Dog & Bacon's good form continued with an 8-1 victory over the Crown, leaving them an eleven point lead over Kings Arms B after the Billingshurst's sides 6-3 win against the Springbok Club, with Shay Leogue striking a 111 finish for the winners. Springbok B maintain third spot following a narrow 5-4 win over the Southwater Club, and the Star grabbed a 5-4 win over Windmill B. Bottom side Dog & Duck posted their second win of the season by beating the Fountain again by a 5-4 score line. The final match between the Rising Sun and the Bear was postponed till a later date.
Week 15 Round-up (12th February 2009) by Dave Miles
Hall & Woodhouse Logo
Another 9-0 win for the Kings Arms opens up a massive 19 point lead at the top of the A Division, this week it was the Norfolk Arms turn to suffer. With the Rising Sun having a bye third placed Pelhams closed to within three points following their 7-2 win over the Sussex Barn, and Roffey recovered well from the previous weeks 9-0 drubbing by the Kings Arms to beat the Windmill 5-4. Ross Gillingham was on target for the Plough with a fine 120 checkout during his sides 6-3 win over the Three Compasses and in the final match the Gate recorded their second successive 7-2 victory when beating bottom side Fountain B. In the B Division, the Dog & Bacon have opened up a nine point lead over their nearest rivals Kings Arms B, with both sides grabbing good wins, the Dog won 8-1 over the Bear, while the Arms B beat the Rising Sun B 6-3, helped by Paul Sweeney's 120 checkout. Tim Brooker's 107 finish, spurred on the Star to a 8-1 beating of the Dog & Duck, while Southwater Club's recent good form continues with a 7-2 victory over the Springbok Club, but Springbok B did restore some pride by beating the struggling Windmill B also 7-2.
Week 17 Round-up (5th February 2009) by Dave Miles
Andy MasonThe Kings Arms Billingshurst plough on at the top of the A Division with another 9-0 wipe out with their opponents, Roffey Club suffering a rare blank sheet, Ady Dudman celebrated the victory with a maximum. Andy Mason's (pictured) 130 & Alan Wyatt's 120 finishes helped second placed Rising Sun to a 9-0 win over the Fountain B, enabling them to open up a ten point gap over third place Pelhams who had a bye. The Windmill hammered the Sussex Barn 8-1, while the Norfolk Arms scrapped home 5-4 against the Plough. Two maximums were hit during the Gate's fine 7-2 win over the Three Compasses, Dave Gardner hit his for the Gate, while the Compasses Keith Hodges struck his second of the season. The Dog & Bacon replace Kings Arms B at the top of the B Division following their 9-0 demolition of the Springbok Club, with Percy Gotcher hitting his first 180 of the season for the Dog. With the Kings Arms B's game with the Bear postponed, the Springbok B took advantage to close the gap on the Arms by winning 7-2 at the Star Roffey, and during the Fountain's 5-4 victory over the Rising Sun B, the Sun's Matt Goldsworthy & Rick Buckley struck 111 & 110 finishes respectively to no avail. Both the Crown and Southwater Club hit much needed 8-1 victories, the Crown beat Windmill B, while Southwater overcame the Dog & Duck.

Week 14 Round-up (22nd January 2009) by Dave Miles
Andy GurrA Division leaders Kings Arms had a bye, so it gave the chasing pack a chance to close the gap at the top, and it was the Pelhams who made the most of it, by beating the Three Compasses 9-0, for their fourth 9-0 victory in the last five games, Dave Critchley was in good form for the Crawley side, as he struck a 180, while team mate Andy Gurr (pictured) checked out on 110, but despite their good win they stay third in the table, just a point behind the Rising Sun who comfortably beat the Gate from Rusper 8-1. Roffey Club lie in a distant fourth place following a fine 7-2 win over the Plough from Lower Beeding, and the Norfolk Arms recorded their second successive victory when overcoming the Susex Barn 6-3, the Arms Craig Hebbs struck a maximum in celebration.
