| 2009/10 League Format
This season the league season will again be played with two divisions from the outset with ten teams competing in each division. In the 'A' Division sees The Lions (formally Legion Lions) and The Moonraker (formally The Old Plough) promoted from the 'B' Division. The Plough Ifield 'B' are the only side relegated to the 'B' Division while Popes Mead and WKD join the league. All teams will be playing each other twice. Matches are played over three sets of Pairs and six sets of singles. Each being 501 up, best of three legs. The Singles are drawn after the Pairs have been played. One point is awarded for each set won. The winning team will be awarded a two point bonus. |

Play-offs (19th April 2010)
by Ian Holman added Tuesday 11th May 2010 Sperry
have two qualifiers for this seasons League Pairs Finals and they
will meet each other in the 'A' Division final having come through
the play-offs at Three Bridges Football Club. Steve Mecrow partnered
with Terry Harmsworth will meet Phil Smith who is partnered by Ernie
Potter. Ernie Potter and Kevin Fishwick both hit 180s on the night.
In the 'B' Division play-offs Mike Kramer and Owen Grantham from
Labour Rebels came through to face Pelhams' pairing Dick Brice and
Gary Simpson. Owen Grantham hit the only maximum from the 'B'
Division play-offs.

Week 18 Round-up (12th April 2010)
by Ian Holman added Tuesday 11th May 2010 Sperry
retained the 'A' Division title beating Labour Club 5-4 in the last
week of matches with Terry Harmsworth hitting a 180 for Sperry and
Warren Grantham (pictured) hitting 177 for Labour
Club. The Swan finished runners-up, ten points adrift of the
champions and two points ahead of Labour Club. Royal Oak finished
fourth by a big margin as they beat Labour Reds 7-2 with Paul
Trivass checking out on 133 for The Oak. Con Club Bumbles held off
The Lions for fifth spot, beating them 5-4 while Russell Davies hit
two maximums as The Plough Ifield finished the season with a 5-4 win
over The Moonraker. In the 'B' Division champions Pelhams beat The
Plough B 9-0,runners-up WKD beat Conservative Club 6-3 and Owen
Grantham finished on 104 as third placed Labour Rebels beat Popes
Mead 7-2. Lost Legion finished behind Conservative Club in fifth
spot following their 5-4 win against The Downsman. |

quarter-final tie 5-1 against Labour Rebels. Labour Club's
Nigel Panton (pictured) checked out on 152 and Pelhams'
Gary Simpson hit a 180 as Labour Club ran out 6-0 winners against
the 'B' Division champions. Tony Arnold hit a 180 as Con Club
Bumbles beat The Moonraker 5-1 and The Swan advanced with a walkover
against Guns and Roses. |

Week 16 Round-up (15th March 2010)

Swan moved to the top of the 'A' Division following their 8-1 win
against struggling Labour Reds with Tommy Walker taking out a 127
finish. Sperry were without a game and are now two points off the
top with a game in hand. Labour Club made it eleven wins on the spin
as they stay in touch in third, beating The Moonraker 6-3. In this
match there were 180s from Labour Club's Dan Bradford and The
Moonraker's John Bunker. Tony Bedford also checked out on 100 for
the Moonraker. Royal Oak won 7-2 against Con Club Bumbles with
Paul Trivass (pictured) in good form, hitting his
fifth maximum of the season and his second 125 checkout. The other
match saw a rare win for The Plough Ifield as they beat The Lions
5-4. Pelhams continue their excellent unbeaten 'B' Division campaign
as they beat second placed WKD 7-2 to claim the title with two
matches remaining. Labour Rebels beat Conservative Club 5-4, The
Downsman beat The Swan B 6-3 and Lost Legion beat Popes Mead 7-2
with Kevin Grantham checking out on 103.

Singles Play-offs (8th March 2010)
by Ian Holman added Monday 15th March 2010 ![]() The Swan pair Graham Brook (above left) and Adam Campbell (above right) made it through to the Crawley Monday League Singles Semi-Finals in the 'A' Division play-offs at the Labour Club on Monday 8th March. Brook progressed without dropping a leg and beat Con Club Bumbles' Paul Burrows in the Quarter-Finals Campbell beat Labour Reds' Kevin Reilly 2-1 to book his place in the last four. Earlier in the evening Reilly put out last seasons winner Kevin Fishwick (Sperry) in the best game of the night. Reilly hit two maximums as he took the opening leg then Fishwick replied with a 180 as he comfortably took the second leg, before Reilly struck the all important finish in the decider. Sperry's Ernie Potter also hit a 180. The 'B' Division play-offs took place at Three Bridges Football Club on the same evening with Labour Rebels' Stuart Campbell coming through to face Pelhams' Steve Masters. Maximums here were struck by last season's runner-up Owen Grantham (Labour Rebels), Ross Mitchell (Guns and Roses) and Dick Brice (Pelhams). |

Imperial have withdrawn from the league having played four league
matches in the second half of the season. All matches from the first
half stand with the second half of fixtures scraped. |

Steve Webb Pairs

Rebels pair Owen Grantham and Micky Norman (pictured)
were in good form as they became the first 'B' Division pair to win
the Steve Webb Pairs, taking the title with a 3-1 win in the final
against last season's champions Kevin Fishwick and Terry Harmsworth
(Sperry). The sixth staging of the event attracted a strong field of
36 entries to the Crawley Labour Club on Monday 15th February where
the prize fund was £180. 15-year-old Owen Grantham saved his best
form for the final as he scored well and took out all three doubles.
On route to the final the Rebels pair beat The Royal Oak's Claire
Nicholson and Gary Kozel, team-mates Stuart Campbell and Paul
Richardson, Tracy Jenner and Mike Kramer (also team-mates), Sperry
duo Steve Mecrow and Phil Smith and then Ash Comper and Ross
Mitchell from The Crown. In the other half of the draw last season's
champions Fishwick and Harmsworth beat last season's runners-up Ian
Holman and Rob Metcalfe (Labour Club) in the opening round before
going on to beat Ty Coward and Kevin Reilly (Labour Reds), Paul
Comper and Steve Critchley (Con Club Bumbles) and semi-finalists
Warren Grantham and Lee Nichols (Labour Club). Labour Club pair Dan
Bradford and Lee Nichols both hit 180s during the evening |

week saw nine 100 plus finishes and four 180s. Paul
Chesworth (pictured) checked out on 126 and Adam Campbell
hit a 180 as The Swan lost out to 'A' Division leaders Sperry 6-3.
Labour Club made it nine straight league wins as they move upto
second in the table with Nigel Panton finishing on 126 and Warren
Grantham on 116 as they beat former leaders Royal Oak 6-3. Oak's
Dave Parker hit the highest finish so far this season, 156 and also
took out 100 while Paul Woods hit his second 180 of the season. The
Lions beat The Imperial 9-0, Con Club Bumbles beat The Moonraker 6-3
and The Plough Ifield beat Labour Reds 5-4 with Michael Scudder
hitting a 180 and Russell Davies finishing on 120 for The Plough.
Dick Brice was in good form with finishes of 143 and 108 while Steve
Masters hit a maximum as Pelhams opened up a 15 point lead at the
top of the 'B' Division following a 9-0 win against The Downsman and
a 6-3 win against The Plough B. Second placed WKD slipped to their
second defeat of the season as they lost out 6-3 against third
placed Labour Rebels. Ron Baker checked out on 108 for Popes Mead as
they lost 5-4 against The Plough B. The Swan B beat Conservative
Club 5-4 and Lost Legion beat Guns and Roses 6-3.

five points separate the top three teams in the 'A' Division after
this weeks games, with leaders Sperry beating Con Club Bumbles 7-2
and second placed The Swan beating the Plough Ifield by the same
score. Labour Club move upto third following a 9-0 win against
Labour Reds while Royal Oak slipped to fourth after losing 6-3 to
The Lions, whose Richard Dixon (pictured) notched
his fourth maximum of the season. The Moonraker beat The Imperial
9-0 in the week's other top flight game. WKD are back on top of the
'B' Division following a 7-2 win against The Downsman. Second placed
Pelhams have a game in hand and are a point behind as they beat
Popes Mead 6-3. Labour Rebels beat Guns and Roses 6-3, Conservative
Club beat Lost Legion 7-2 despite a 110 finish from Legions' Gary
Rice and The Swan B beat The Plough B 6-3.

Swan stay top of the 'A' Division with a 5-4 win against The Lions
this week. Sperry are just two points adrift following their 8-1 win
against second from bottom The Plough Ifield with The Plough's
Russell Davies hitting a 180. Royal Oak slipped up at home to The
Moonraker, going down 5-4 despite a 125 finish from Paul Trivass.
Labour Club join them in third place as they beat last seasons third
placed side Con club Bumbles 8-1 with maximums from Nigel
Panton (pictured) and Justin Terry. In return Dave
Critchley hit a 180 and Alan Burling took out the week's top finish
with a 136. Labour Reds beat The Imperial 6-3 in the other 'A'
Division match. Pelhams remain joint top of the 'B' Division with a
game in hand alongside WKD. Both sides recorded 7-2 wins. Pelhams
beat Conservative Club and Garth Sheldon helped WKD to beat The Swan
B with a 125 finish. Labour Rebels beat The Downsman 9-0 while The
Plough B beat former league leaders Lost Legion 5-4. |

Knockout Cup First Round (7th December 2009)

holders Sperry and other top 'A' Division sides The Swan and Labour
Club all advanced to the Second Round of this season's Knockout Cup
with 6-0 wins while Royal Oak, Labour Reds and The Plough Ifield all
lost to 'B' Division sides. Labour Rebels beat last season's
runners-up Royal Oak 4-2 while Labour Reds lost out in the decider
as they went out 4-3 against unbeaten 'B' Division leaders Pelhams
with Gary Simpson beating Kevin Reilly 3-0 in the decider despite
Reilly hitting two 180s. Rose & Crown also went through after taking
The Plough Ifield to the decider. Holders Sperry beat WKD with Kevin
Fishwick hitting his second maximum of the season. The Swan beat
Popes Mead with Graham Brook taking out a 100 finish while Labour
Club beat The Downsman. The Lions advanced beating Conservative Club
4-2 with Jim Longhurst (pictured) hitting two
maximums and Collum McDonagh one maximum. Paul Burrows hit a 180 for
Con Club Bumbles as they beat The Plough Ifield B 5-1. The Plough's
Nelson Smith also hit a 180 in this match. The other results saw The
Moonraker beat The Imperial 4-2 and Lost Legion receive a walkover

champions Sperry are top of the 'A' Division after their 9-0 win
against The Lions this week as Royal Oak beat 2007/8 champions The
Swan 5-4. Four maximums we hit in the top division this week and
they were all struck by the top three teams. Steve Mecrow for
Sperry, Paul Trivass and Gary Kozel for Royal Oak and Will Bolton
for The Swan. Labour Club's Nigel Panton checked out on 100 as they
beat The Plough Ifield 6-3, The Moonraker beat Labour Reds 5-4 and
Steve Critchley finished on 100 as Con Club Bumbles beat The
Imperial 8-1. In the 'B' Division leaders Pelhams remain the only
unbeaten team in the league as they beat Lost Legion 8-1. WKD beat
The Plough B 5-4, Owen Grantham (pictured) hit a
180 as Labour Rebels beat The Swan B 5-4, Russ Lee checked out on

Paul Matthews Trebles (9th November 2009)

dominance of Sperry over
the last three years in the Paul Matthews Trebles was ended after
both their trebles were
eliminated in this
season’s playoffs at a packed Three Bridges Football Club. Last
year’s winning trio lead by Steve Mecrow were beaten 2-0 in the
first round by Labour Rebels
and Phil Smith’s attempt to regain the Paul Matthews Rosebowl
after two years, ended in a semi-final defeat at the hands of The
Swan. This followed wins for The Swan against
Royal Oak, The Lions and Tom Walker’s
Swan trio to put Adam Campbell’s treble, including Graham
Brook and Paul Chesworth, through to the final. Meanwhile the
Labour Club’s trio lead by Lee Nicholls with Ian Holman and
Nigel Panton, reached this stage with wins over Royal Oak, Labour
Rebels and Justin
Peters’ Swan treble. The final proved to be a tightly fought affair
with the Labour Club decisive on their doubles to win 2-0, Ian
Holman checking out on 78 to take the Rosebowl and the £60 prize
money. Dave Smith of the Lions hit the only maximum of the evening.

Week 5 Round-up (2nd November 2009)

Oak and The Swan continued their good starts to the season as both

Week 4 Round-up (26th October 2009)

Swan lead the Royal Oak at the top of the 'A' Division after the
fourth week of fixtures as both sides kept their unbeaten records in
tact. The Swan beat last season's champions Sperry 6-3 with
Adam Campbell (pictured) hitting his first maximum of the
season for the league leaders while Royal Oak beat Labour Club 5-4
with Paul Trivass checking out on 106 for The Oak and Nigel Panton
hitting a 180 for Labour Club. Labour Reds are third following their
7-2 win against second from bottom The Plough Ifield. Keith Shotter
checked out on 100 for Labour Reds. The Lions beat The Imperial 9-0
and Con Club Bumbles beat The Moonraker 5-4. Just three points
seperate the top three in the 'B' Division. Pelham Buckle are top
following their 9-0 win against The Downsman. New side WKD are two
points behind after their 7-2 win against Labour Rebels. Paul
Richardson hit a 103 finish for The Rebels in this match. Guns and
Roses player Ross Mitchell hit the best finish of the week with a
135 as his side lost 7-2 against Lost Legion. Conservative Club are
up to fourth with an 8-1 win against The Swan B while The Plough
Ifield B recorded their first win of the season, beating bottom of
the table Popes Mead 6-3. |

Week 3 Round-up (19th October 2009)

maximums were struck in the third week of fixtures.
The Lions' Richard Dixon (pictured) hit two and
Royal Oak's Paul Woods one as 'A' Division joint leaders Royal Oak
won 7-2. The Swan joined The Royal Oak at the top of the table with
an 8-1 win against bottom of the table The Plough Ifield. Maximums
in this match were struck by Graham Brook (The Swan) and Russell
Davies (The Plough Ifield). Reigning champions Sperry are third
following their 5-4 win against Con Club Bumbles. Steve Critchley
(Con Club Bumbles) checked out on 114 in this match and Steve Riggs
(Con Club Bumbles) finished on 107. The Moonraker continued their
good start in the top division with a 7-2 win against The Imperial
despite a 154 finish from The Imperial's Kevin Riley. Moonraker's
Tony Bedford shot out on 110 in this one. Labour Club picked up
their first win of the season, beating Labour Reds 6-3 with 180s
from Dan Bradford (Labour Club) and Kevin Reilly (Labour Reds).
Pelhams moved to the top of the 'B' Division with an 8-1 win against
new side Popes Mead. The other new side WKD share top spot after
their 7-2 win against The Downsman with Kevin Berridge on target
with a 180. Lost Legion are just a point behind the top two
following their 6-3 win against Conservative Club. The other matches
saw Labour Rebels beat Guns and Roses 7-2 and The swan B beat The
Plough Ifield B 7-2. |
Week 2 Round-up (12th October 2009)

second week of fixtures saw Paul Trivass check out on 120 to help
Royal Oak hit the top of the 'A' Division after an 8-1 against The
Imperial, whose Kevin Riley hit a maximum as consolation. The Swan
are second following a 5-4 win against winless Labour Club while
last season's unbeaten champions Sperry slipped to a 5-4 defeat
against last season's 'B' Division champions The Moonraker despite a
180 from Terry Harmsworth. The win for The Moonraker was helped by
180s from Chris and Richard Allen as they collected their first top
flight win. The Lions also promoted from last season recorded their
first win as they beat Labour Reds 6-3, helped along by a 100
checkout from Jim Longhurst. The Plough Ifield beat Con Club Bumbles
5-4 in the other 'A' Division match. Lost Legion and new side WKD
share the lead in the 'B' Division with two wins each. Lost Legion
beat Labour Rebels 6-3 while WKD beat the other new side, Popes Mead
5-4. Pelham Buckle are just a point adrift of the top two following
their 6-3 win against The Swan B. The Downsman beat Guns And Roses
6-3 and Conservative Club beat The Plough Ifield B 5-4. |

opening fixtures in the 'A' Division brought about no surprise results as the top two from
last season recorded comfortable wins. Last season's champions
Sperry won 8-1 away to The Plough Ifield while The Swan beat newly
promoted The Lions 7-2 with The Swan's Adam Campbell checking out on
100. Labour Reds started well with an 8-1 win
against The Imperial despite a 180 from The Imperial's Roy Algate. Royal Oak beat last season's 'B' Division
champions The Moonraker (formally The Old Plough) 5-4. The Oak's Paul Stevenson hit a 180 in this match and Paul Trivass (picyured)
hit the highest checkout of the night with a splendid 151. In the
other top division match, last season's third placed side Con Club
Bumbles (formally Three Bridges Bumbles) beat Labour Club 5-4 with
Steve Critchley checking out on 145 in his 2-1 win against Nigel
Panton and Steve Riggs hitting a maximum in the pairs. Ian Holman checked out on 112 in the last set of the evening
for Labour Club
but Bumbles had already secured the match victory in the previous
set to earn themselves the two point win bonus. In the 'B' Division
one of the two new sides, WKD set the pace with an 8-1 win against
The Swan B with WKD's Chris Andrews hitting a maximum and Brett
Davies checking out on 111. Labour Rebels won 5-4 at The Downsman, Lost Legion beat The Plough B
7-2, Pelhams beat Conservative Club 6-3 and last season's wooden spoon winners Guns and Roses beat new

Alan Bowyer Memorial Singles Round-up

Swan kept hold of the Alan Bowyer Singles Memorial Trophy as Justin
Peters was spot on as he won the opening competition of the season on
Monday 28th September without dropping a leg all night. The opening
competition in the Crawley Monday League attracted an entry of 46
players with Peters making his way to the semi-finals where he beat
Sperry's Steve Mecrow. In the other semi-final defending champion
Adam Campbell beat Labour Club's Ian Holman 2-0 to make it an all
Swan final. Dave Chamberlain of the Swan and Richard Dixon of The
Lions both hit maximums. The Royal Oak's Paul Woods hit the highest
finish of the night with a 130 and Labour Club duo Warren Grantham
had finishes of 124 and 104 and Ian Holman a 112 finish. £200 was paid out in
prize money, £90 to Peters, £45 to Campbell, £20 to Mecrow and
Holman and £25 to the league's charity. Full results will follow. |
