Three Bridges Football Club was packed to the rafters
as the Crawley Friday League welcomed PDC World ranked number ten
Wayne 'Hawaii 501' Mardle (pictured left) to
perform an exhibition of darts, and then to the delight of the
leagues players present the seasons awards.
With his now famous Hawaii five O theme tune blasting
out, he made his way to the stage, before facing his first opponent
of the evening. Ten players had qualified to play him, five from
each of the two divisions, based on their performances throughout
the season, a further 5 lucky tickets were also drawn. Each of the
lucky 15 players came to the stage with their own theme tunes
blaring away to a create a tremendous atmosphere.
First players up to face Mardle was Railway Club's
Nick Burgess, he quickly perished, and was soon followed by Mick
Sykes from Labour Blasters, Kirk Gray from Labour Rats and Terry
Bevis of the Imperial. Only Bevis's team mate Kevin Riley and
Bridges Ian Holman managed to trouble Mardle, with both having shots
at a winning double, Longley's Graham Martin drew a lucky ticket,
but that’s the only luck he had after that.
The
second half of the evening's exhibition opened with Legion Lancers
Michael Elliott & APV's Paul Richardson drawing lucky tickets,
Elliott lost out, but young Richardson left a 170 finish, and duly
struck a treble 20, Mardle then placed Richardson's second dart also
in treble 20 after he had hit a single 1, before the APV player hit
the required bullseye with his third dart to complete a famous
win. Defeats for the Leagues top stars continued as PDC & Greyhound
player Danny King, failed in his attempt. But the 13th game proved
unlucky for Mardle, as Greyhound's Pete Crossley (pictured
right) struck the first 180 of the evening, when he inflicted the first of two of
Mardle's only genuine defeats. Mardle quickly took revenge by
striking back to back maximums when defeating Rugby Club's Andy
Gurr, and further 180's came against Charcoal Burners' Richard
Stanford and Greyhound's Neil Smith. Stanford lost but
Smith had the last laugh, finishing on double eight. Following his exhibition, Wayne went on to Present the seasons
awards.

Secretaries & Captains Cup (2nd
May
2008) by Ian Holman
Labour
Blasters' Roy Oxlade (pictured left) won the
Secretaries Cup beating Diamonds' Phil Smith 2-0 in the final held at
Three Bridges Football Club. Oxlade received a walkover against Kevin
Skelton in the opening round before going on to beat S Raikes and Steve
Cox on route to the final. Phil Smith beat Terry Britt, Mal Terry and
Larry Kavanah. Shock result of the competition was Dingles' Stuart
Campbell's opening round win against Greyhound's Pete Crossley.
At the Labour Club Diamonds' Steve Souter (pictured right)
won the Captains Cup beating Bridges' Ian Holman 2-0 in the
final. On route to the final Souter beat S Maslam, M Elliott and Kevin
Riley. Holman beat Mick Curren, Dave Miles and Norman Simpson. Curren
and Holman hit 180s and Dave Fry checked out on 100.
Cup Finals Round-up (25th April
2008) by Dave Miles
The
two Knock-out Cup Competitions involving the leagues top four teams
were held at the Labour Club. The Knock-out Cup Final pitted the
reigning Cup holders & newly crowned Premier Division Champions
Greyhound against former League & Cup Champions Diamonds, and what a
thrilling Final it proved to be. While in the Consolation Cup, Rugby
Club took on the Charcoal Burner.
With both the Diamonds & Greyhounds sides bristling
with some of the areas best talent, it was no wonder the final was
taken to a sudden death leg of 1001 to decide the outcome. Greyhound
started well taking the opening Treble through Danny King,
Dave Mansell (pictured) & Pete Crossley, only for Colin
Whiley, Graham Brook & Kevin Reilly to level for the Diamonds.
Diamonds putting behind them their 8-1 thrashing from two weeks
previous in the League at the hands of their opponents, then had a
purple patch taking the opening three singles through Phil Smith,
Colin Whiley and Ty Coward for a 4-1 lead, needing one more win to
win the Cup. Greyhound weren't going to relinquish the Cup that
easily and fought back strongly, firstly the ever reliable Neil
Smith made it 4-2, then Dave Mansell hit a 141 checkout to make it
4-3 and finally Danny King took the game into a deciding leg of 1001
by beating Graham Brook to level the scores at 4-4. In a tense leg
of darts the Team 1001 see-sawed both ways, and it was Dave Mansell
who finally hit double four to win the Cup for the Greyhound, a
victory that gives the Tinsley Green side a unique League & Cup
double.
The Consolation Cup Final between the Rugby Club and an under
strength Charcoal Burner was all level at 2-2 after the opening two
Trebles and Singles. Andy Gurr, Tommy Lewis & Bob Abbott and then
Alex Whiteside, Larry Kavanah & Lee Nichols took the opening two
trebles for the Rugby Club, before Dean Edlin & Dave Fry hit back
for the Burner winning their singles. Bob Abbott then struck a brace
of 180's and a 111 finish to put the Rugby Club back in front,
before team mates Andy Gurr, Alex Whiteside with a 120 checkout &
Tommy Lewis secured the Cup 6-2.
At Three Bridges Football Club, Longley C escaped relegation by beating
Conservative Club 6-3 in the final league game of the season.

Week 18 Round-up (18th April 2008)
by Dave Miles
The
final league fixtures were played out this week around Crawley's
dartboards, and at the end of the evenings play two new Champions
were crowned, and one team won promotion to the Premier Division for
the very first time.
It was the Greyhound who finally won
their season long battle with the Rugby Club to finally take the
Premier Division title following a 7-2 win over an under strength
Charcoal Burner. Sussex star Pete Crossley (pictured)
was on form for the new Champions hitting a brace of 180's, but
surprise of the evening was the defeat of the only unbeaten Premier
Division player Danny King by the in-form Dave Fry. The Rugby Club
helped by maximums from Alex Whiteside and Andy Gurr put in a great
efforts to overcome the inconsistent RS Bumbles 9-0, their win left
them as runners-up, 5 points adrift of the Greyhound. Diamonds ended
the season in third after a 7-2 win over Bridges, but it was the
losers who stole the headlines by hitting three 180's, Justin Terry,
Darren Schollar & Dave Harris being the marksmen. Relegated APV who
won their first game of the season the previous week had no game,
and the battle to see who joins them in the A Division next season
between Longley C & Conservative Club was postponed until next week.
The Imperial only lost one match all season on the way to
clinching the A Division title, and in their last outing defeated
Labour Rats 6-3 to comfortably take the Championship with a clear 6
point margin. Joining them in the Premier Division are the Railway
Club, they comprehensively beat the Paymasters 8-1 to enable them to
beat the long time front runners Labour Blasters over the winning
line, leaving the Blasters back in third place after they could
only muster up a 5-4 win over Three Bridges A. Mick Phelan shot out
on 123 for the Dingles during his teams 7-2 victory over the
Blocbusters, while the Rugby Club B's 7-2 victory over the Legion
Lancers leaves the Lancers the bottom side for the third consecutive
season.

Week 17 Round-up (11th April 2008)
by Dave Miles
The
Greyhound ended the two year reign of Diamonds as Premier Division
Champions and strengthened their own hopes of landing the title,
when defeating them 8-1 in this week's match up. Five maximums were
posted between the two sides, Steve Mecrow, Phil Smith & Martin
Burchell struck gold for Diamonds, while Mick Clarke
(pictured) & Pete Crossley hit Greyhound's. This result
leaves the Tinsley Green side needing 1 point from their remaining
game at the Charcoal Burner to clinch the Premier Division
crown. Second placed Rugby Club put in a solid performance against
Bridges, winning 7-2, but it was Bridges duo of Mal Bradford & Rob
Metcalfe who stole the limelight with maximums, although Rob Cross
did strike a great 160 finish for the Rugby Club. RS Bumbles beat
Longley C 7-2 and APV won against the Conservative Club 5-4.
The Imperial hold an eight point lead over Labour Blasters, and are
firm favourites to take the A Division crown, both the Imperial 9-0
over Rugby Club B, and the Blasters 6-3 over the Dingles had good
wins, while the Railway Club stay a close third after beating Labour
Rats 6-3. Steve Maslem of the Railway Club notched his first ever
league 180, and Warren Grantham Labour Blasters shot his 2nd of the
season. Another rare maximum was recorded by Steve Cox, the Three
Bridges A ace hit his during his sides narrow 5-4 victory over the
Paymasters. Finally Blocbusters grabbed their fifth win of the
season, when beating Legion Lancers 7-2.

Week 16 Round-up (4th April 2008)
by Dave Miles
The
Greyhound took a big step towards winning the Premier Division for
the first time this week. The Tinsley Green side comprehensively
beat their nearest challengers the Rugby Club 7-2, to move six
points clear at the top of the table. Sussex stars Neil Smith [180]
and Dave Mansell with a 135 checkout were in good form for the
Greyhound. The Greyhound's Danny King tops the most wins table
following the previous leader, Andy Gurr's 3-2 defeat by Pete
Crossley. Charcoal Burner beat the Conservative Club 8-1 to move
into the top three, while the Blues defeat condemns them into the
relegation positions. Richard Stanford struck his twelfth maximum for
the Burner, while team mates Les Templeman & Dave Fry
(pictured) also posted 180's, and to show the Burners
dominance, Lee Gladman hit a 136 finish. Longley C move out of the
bottom two after they overcame the bottom side APV 6-3, helped by a
180 from Graham Martin, and at Three Bridges FC, Bridges won 5-4
having taken a 5-2 lead before RS Bumbles restored pride by taking
the last two games of the evening. Bridges' Rob Metcalfe and the
Bee's Tony Arnold recorded 110 & 108 out shots respectably.
With two games remaining, the Imperial lead the A Division from
Labour Blasters by 5 points. Both sides posted good wins last
Friday, the Imperial overcame the Blocbusters 6-3, while the
Blasters thumped the Legion Lancers 8-1. The Railway Club drop down
to third despite beating Rugby Club B 7-2, while the Dingles 5-4
defeat by Three Bridges A ends any chance of a top two spot.
Paymasters have put back to back victories together when beating
the Labour Rats 6-3.

Flying Pairs Round-up (28th March
2008) by Dave Miles
Report to follow...
Cup Semi-Finals Round-up (14th March
2008) by Dave Miles
Two exciting
Cup Finals are in prospect, as the top four teams in the League will
contest the Knockout Cup & the Consolation Cup Finals to be held at the
end of April. Incredibly all four avoided each other in the semi final
draws.
At the Labour Club, reigning Knockout Cup
holders and Premier Division leaders, the Greyhound were drawn to play RS
Bumbles, while the Diamonds currently lying third in the Premier Division
took on APV in the second semi. Greyhound started well winning the opening
three games before the Bees responded with victories from Mick Curren and
Alan Burling, but this only helped to spur on the Tinsley Green side, as
Danny King, Neil Smith and Mick Clarke clinched a fine 6-2 win. Diamonds
had it much easier, cruising through 8-0, helped by Martin Burchell's
sixth maximum of the season to set up a cracking Final with the holders.
The Consolation Cup Semis were played out at
Three Bridges Football Club with both Premier Division sides Rugby Club
and the Charcoal Burner drawing lower division sides Three Bridges A &
Labour Rats respectably. The Rugby Club currently second in the Premier
Division had a slight scare in their semi against Three Bridges A, leading
3-0, they were surprisingly pegged back to 3-2 when Malcolm Welfare and
Tony Cross beat Lee Nichols and Alex Whiteside, but in the end experience
told, victories by Larry Kavanah, Rob Cross & Tommy Lewis saw the Rugby
Club through 6-2. They will meet the Charcoal Burner in April's Final,
after the fourth placed Premier Division side eased through against the
Rats 8-0, Richard Stanford's 180, Les Templeman (pictured) & Lee
Gladman's 154 & 117 checkouts were the highlights of Burners victory.
In a re-arranged A Division fixture, the Dingles
inflicted a 7-2 beating to the Legion Lancers, a win that keeps them in
touch with the second & third placed sides Railway Club & Labour Blasters.

Sussex
star Neil Smith was in superb form for the Greyhound, as his 180 and 123
finish spurred the Tinsley Green side on to an 8-1 victory over the
Bridges, and claim back top spot in the Premier Division, from the Rugby
Club who had a bye. Third placed Diamonds produced a 7-2 win over the
Conservative Club, helped by Steve Mecrow's (pictured) fifth
maximum of the season, while RS Bumbles overcame bottom side APV 8-1.
Ernie Potter shot a 180 for Longley C, but all to no avail, as his side
crashed 7-2 to fourth placed Charcoal Burner.
The top two teams in the B Division clashed at
the Labour Club, with the leaders, the Imperial coming away with a hard
fought 5-4 victory over their hosts Labour Blasters. The Imperial now lead
the Division by seven points with just three games remaining. The Blasters
defeat also cost them their second place, as the Railway Club's 6-3 win
over the Blocbusters moves them into the top two, based on them hitting
more 180's than the Blasters, Nick Burgess shot out on 115 for the
Railway, the Divisions best finish of the week. Paymasters registered a
rare win when overcoming Rugby Club B 5-4, and as the match between the
Dingles & Legion Lancers was postponed, the final game in the Division was
won by the Labour Rats, 5-4 over Three Bridges A.

At packed venues

competitions, with four qualifiers from each venue trying to reach the
Finals Night on the 9th May.
At the Labour Club, it was the Premier Division

Smith, Steve Mecrow & Bob Casey. Mecrow 136 & Smith 106 also knocked in
big finishes. With the reigning Pairs Champions Richard Stanford & Lee
Gladman not defending this season, new Champions would be crowned. From
the top half of the draw it was the Diamonds duo of Steve Mecrow & Kevin
Reilly, along with the surprise pairing of Dave Gardner & Phil Stoner, the
APV duo had earlier beaten off the challenge from RS Bumbles Paul Burrows
and the in form Alan 'Butch' Burling. The qualifiers from the bottom
half were the Greyhound pairing of Neil Smith & Mick Clarke and Steve
Souter (pictured) & Graham Brook of the Diamonds.

Week 13 Round-up (1st February 2008)
by Dave Miles
The
Rugby Club took advantage of the Greyhound's bye this week to move above
them at the top of the Premier Division with a 8-1 thumping of Longley C
in Three Bridges, their win was helped by the unbeaten Andy Gurr's
(pictured) third maximum of the season. PDC star Martin Burchell hit a
180 for Diamonds during his sides 9-0 whitewash of APV, while the inform
Richard Stanford was on target for the Charcoal Burner hitting his eighth
maximum, as the Burner scraped home 5-4 against RS Bumbles for whom
Captain Mick Curren also shot a 180. Another maximum was struck by Bridges
Dave Harris, sadly it was only in consolation, as his side went down 5-4
to the Conservative Club, the Blues much needed win moves them out of the
bottom two, while Henry Spencer's great 124 checkout proved too be the
weeks best.
Both the top two in the B Division moved further
away from the chasing pack following their 9-0 wins over the bottom two
sides. Leaders Imperial beat bottom side Legion Lancers, while two points
adrift Labour Blasters eased past the Paymasters, who had Laurie
Shepherd posting a 180. The Railway Club who are third lost ground on the
leaders after losing at home 6-3 to the Dingles. Both Three Bridges A &

Week 12 Round-up (25th January 2008)
by Dave Miles
No fewer than twelve
180s were struck around the boards this week plus some big checkouts in a
high scoring night. The Charcoal Burner's fine 6-3 victory over the
reigning Premier Division Champions Diamonds has virtually ended Diamonds
hopes of retaining their crown, leaving them a massive 19 points adrift of
the leaders Greyhound. A maximum from Les Templeman, plus a 158 finish by
Lee Gladman (pictured) proved too good for the Champions, although
they did hit back with 180s through Ty Coward, Phil Smith, Nigel Panton &
Steve Mecrow in a fruitless effort. Five more 180s were posted at the
Greyhound as the hosts beat the Conservative Club 8-1, Neil Smith & team
mate Dave Mansell both hit a brace for the leaders, while Roland Ratcliffe
replied with one for the Blues, Mansell 126 & Pete Crossley 114 also
notched good finishes. Hot on the Greyhound's heels are the Rugby Club,
inspired by a 180 from Andy Gurr, they beat bottom side APV 9-0, while in
a close fought match, Bridges edged a thriller with Longley C 5-4, helped
by a Justin Terry maximum. Russell Davies hit a 108 finish for Longley C
on his seasonal debut.
The Imperial are the new leaders of the A
Division following their 8-1 beating of Three Bridges A at the Imperial,
with Captain Kevin Riley on good form by checking out on 122. Previous
leaders Labour Blasters slipped up when they could only beat Labour Rats
5-4, with the Rats skipper Shane Hellawell hitting his second 180 in
successive games. Dingles beat the Paymasters 7-2, as did the Railway Club
over Legion Lancers, and at the Rugby Club, the Rugby Club B went down 5-4
to the Blocbusters.

Reilly 114. Full results will follow.
Week 11 Round-up (11th January 2008)
by Dave Miles
Four
maximums and a ton plus finish were hit in the pick of last Friday's
Premier Division matches. Charcoal Burner's Lee Gladman was on top form,
striking two 180's for the second week running, team mate Richard Stanford
poked home a 121 finish, but this was all in vain, as the Burner crashed
7-2 to the Rugby Club, for whom Andy Gurr & Tommy Lewis both notched
maximums. Despite a great win the Rugby Club drop further behind Leaders
Greyhound who beat Longley C 9-0 with Danny King hitting his fifth maximum, and in a thriller at Three Bridges F.C.
RS Bumbles defeated the reigning Champions Diamonds 5-4, the Bees hero
being Captain Mick Curren (pictured) who defeated PDC star Martin
Burchell and also hitting a brace of 180's, Phil Smith also hit the
magical 180 but all to no avail for the Champions. At the Labour Club,
Bridges beat APV 6-3 to inflict the bottom sides 10th straight defeat of
the season.
More 180's were posted in the A Division, young
Dan Bradford from the Imperial hit his 3rd of the season during his sides
6-3 victory over the Railway Club, and team mate Ken Defraitas registered
a fine 122 checkout as the Broadfield side remain one point behind leaders
Labour Blasters who also won 6-3, they beat the Rugby Club B, helped by
Dave Blows 180. Labour Rats put last weeks surprise defeat by Legion
Lancers behind them by beating local rivals Dingles 5-4, skipper Shane
Hellawell celebrated with a rare maximum. Tony Cross was in good form for
Three Bridges A, he won his singles, and hit a maximum during his sides
7-2 beating of the Blocbusters. The battle between the bottom two sides
went in favour of the Paymasters, they defeated Legion Lancers 8-1, a
defeat that firmly cements the Legion side to the bottom.

Week 10 Round-up (4th January 2008)
by Dave Miles
No fewer than ten
maximums were struck around Crawley's dartboards following the mid season
break. Premier Division leaders Rugby Club lost their unbeaten record, and
top spot after a 6-3 beating by Diamonds, the Diamonds were in sparkling
form, helped by 180s from Kevin Reilly, Phil Smith, Ty Coward & PDC star
Martin Burchell. Four more maximums were posted by the Charcoal Burner
during their narrow 5-4 win over Bridges, Lee Gladman hit a brace, while
Richard Stanford hit his seventh of the season, and not to be out done the
Burner Secretary Les Templeman also grabbed one. The Greyhound's 9-0
triumph over bottom side APV, was enough to see the Tinsley Green side go
top, in a low scoring match Pete Crossley's 126 finish and a 180 from Dave
Mansell proved to be the
only highlights. Another 9-0 result saw RS Bumbles overcome the
Conservative Club, a 119 checkout from the Bees Dave Wragg (pictured)
being the best effort.
Labour Blasters hold on to top spot in the A
Division after a narrow 5-4 victory over the Blocbusters, while the
Imperial's 7-2 win over the Paymasters moves them to within one point of
the leaders. The Railway Club notched up a 6-3 win at home to Three
Bridges A, and despite a 180 from Jack Clissold the Rugby Club B crashed
7-2 at the Labour Club against the Dingles. But finally! after three
seasons of trying the Legion Lancers notched their first ever victory in
the League, new inspired signings helped the bottom side beat Labour Rats

Week 5 Round-up (9th November 2007)
by Dave Miles
After last weeks
First Round Cup defeat, the Crawley Friday League Premier Division leaders
Rugby Club bounced back with a comprehensive 9-0 victory at the
Conservative Club, maximums from Rob Cross and Alex Whiteside, 124 &
120 checkouts respectably from Larry Kavanah (pictured) & Andy Gurr, plus 14 dart legs from Gurr and Rob Cross
proved too much for the blues. Along with the Rugby Club, the Greyhound
remain unbeaten, they came from behind to beat RS Bumbles 7-2, with
maximums from Greyhound debutant Mick Clarke & the Bees Stan Jackson, also
making an impression was Duane Adams, he struck a superb 152 finish for
the Bees. Third placed Diamonds also produced a 7-2 victory, they beat the
plucky effort from Longley C. Richard Stanford was in fine form for the
Charcoal Burner, the Hurstpierpoint player hit a 180 and checked out with
a fine 131 during his sides 8-1 thumping of APV.
The Imperial are the only remaining team in the
B Division with a 100% record after 5 matches, their latest victory, a
great 7-2 over the Dingles sent them soaring to the top of the Division,
with an inferior wins record, but equal on points are the Labour Rats,
they cruised up the table after their 8-1 beating of the Rugby Club
B. Last weeks leaders, Labour Blasters drop out of the top three after
suffering their first defeat when going down 5-4 to the Railway Club. Ray
Howard struck the only 180 in the Division last Friday, but all to no
avail as his side the Paymasters slumped to a 7-2 defeat by the
Blocbusters, earning them their first victory of the season, while at
Three Bridges F.C. the Three Bridges A moved out of the bottom two
following a 9-0 trouncing of Legion Lancers, a defeat that leaves the

(2nd November 2007) by Dave Miles
Last Friday's
First Round Knockout Cup ties failed to produce any upsets with most of
the top sides going through to the Second Round. The tie of the round was
played at the Rugby Club, where the hosts and previous champions fell at
the first hurdle going down 5-3 to the Diamonds, Martin Burchell

B Division clash they beat Legion Lancers. Bridges reversed their
defeat in a recent League match with Longley C, winning 7-1, while the

Division opposition in the Labour Rats 6-2. Railway Club also went through
by 6-2 when beating Three Bridges A, as did the Dingles who beat the
