Finals Night Round-up (29th May 2009) by Ian Holman
Ken SowerbyThe seasons Finals Night at Three Bridges Football Club started off with the Quarter-Finals of the A & B Division Singles. With Conservative Club's Paul Harding out of the country and Labour Blasters Dave Amer arriving late just two matches went ahead with Pelham Buckle's Dick Brice beating Three Bridges A's Steve Riggs 2-1 and Stuart Campbell of the Dingles beating Blocbusters Ian Morray by the same score. The A & B Division Pairs Semi-Finals were next with Glen Ralph & Eric Spencer (Conservative Club) and Kevin Riley & Ken DeFraitas (Imperial) making it through to the Final with 2-0 wins. The Premier Division Pairs Semi-Finals saw victories for Steve Mecrow & Nick Edwards (Diamonds) 2-1 and Pete Crossley & Andy MacIntosh (Greyhound) 2-0. In the A & B Division Singles Semi-Finals, Dick Brice beat APV's Jordan Ottley 2-0 and Stuart Campbell beat Labour Rats' Dave O'Neill 2-0. The Premier Division Singles Semi-Finals saw Ron Clarke (Royal Bridges) beat Kez Botting (Greyhound) 3-1 and Rob Cross (RS Bumbles) beat Steve Mecrow (Diamonds) 3-2. The first Final of the night saw Railway Club trio Nick Burgess, Steve Maslam and Mal Richardson beat Labour Blasters' Keith Shotter, Ben Souter and Steve Souter 2-0. The Premier Division Trebles Final was an entertaining match between Charcoal Burners' Adam Campbell, Graeme Cargan and Ken Sowerby (pictured), and Royal Bridges' Ron Clarke, Mick Curren and Andy Gurr. Having gone a leg up the Royal Bridges' trio looked as though they were going to secure the title until Sowerby was given a chance to level the match which he duly did with the seasons highest checkout of 167. The Burner' trio then went on to take the final leg to become Premier Division Trebles champions. Conservative Club's Glen Palph and Eric Spencer won the A & B Division Pairs Final beating Imperial's Kevin Riley and Ken DeFraitas 2-1. Pete Crossley and Andy MacIntosh (Greyhound) beat Steve Mecrow and Nick Edwards (Diamonds) in the Premier Division Pairs Final 2-0. Next up was the Ladies Singles Final which was won by Labour Blasters' Tracy Lucas as she beat reigning champion Tracy Jenner (Dingles) 2-1. In the A & B Division Singles Final Dingles missed out again as Pelham Buckle's Dick Brice beat Stuart Campbell 2-0. The Premier Division Singles Final saw Royal Bridges' Ron Clarke beat RS Bumbles Rob Cross 3-1.
Knockout Cup & Consolation Cup Finals (22nd May 2009) by Dave Miles
Neil SmithIn The Knockout Cup Final at the Labour Club Diamonds found the Greyhound in great form, trailing 2-0 after the Trebles, they needed early success in the six singles to stand any chance of taking the honours, but wins for Kez Botting & Del Furminger meant the Diamonds had to win all the remaining games, they did pull one back through Paul Woods, but further wins for Mick Clarke, Jason Yates and Neil Smith ensured the Greyhounds third successive Cup success, winning 7-1. Four maximums were struck, two for Neil Smith (pictured) his 10th & 11th, one for Mick Clarke, and a consolation 180 for Diamonds Phil Smith. Greyhound's win completes an amazing League & Cup double for the second successive season, a League record. APV faced an almighty challenge in lifting the Consolation Cup, as they had to face RS Bumbles, who had ended up in the top four of the Premier Division. In the end the task proved too much for them, going down 8-0.  Stan Jackson's 106 checkout proved to be the games highlight for the Bees, but APV should be proud of ending the season with some silver as the runners up, after an indifferent League campaign.
Knockout Cup & Consolation Cup Semi-Finals (8th May 2009) by Dave Miles
Neil SmithThe Greyhound stayed on course for a record breaking third consecutive Knockout Cup Cup Final victory as they overcome Premier Division runners-up Royal Bridges in their Semi-Final held at the Labour Club. Greyhound opened up a 2-0 lead, winning both the Trebles, but firstly Andy Gurr, then Ron Clarke pulled the Royals back level winning the opening two singles, but superior finishing of the newly crowned Premier Division Champions proved too much for the Royals, as Neil Smith (pictured), Mick Clarke, Jason Yates and Kez Botting saw the holders home 6-2.  Four 180s were hit, Smith and Clarke for the Greyhound, with Kevin Reilly and Rob Metcalfe replying for the Royals.  Their opponents in a repeat of last seasons Final are Diamonds as they found it an easier task when overpowering Bridges 7-1. Bridges Dave Philpot earned his sides only point, also hitting a modest 105 finish. The Consolation Cup Semis pitted the only two Premier Division Clubs left to play each other. RS Bumbles helped by maximums from Darren Gale and Alex Whiteside eased past Longley C 7-1, to face APV in the Final.  APV overcame fellow A Division side Three Bridges A 5-3.
Week 21 Round-up (1st May 2009) by Ian Holman and Dave Miles
Kez BottingThe final week of the league season saw the top two sides in the Premier division clash at Three Bridges Football Club with new side Royal Bridges needing an 8-1 win to snatch the title from last season's champions Greyhound. The Royals got off to a good start as Ron Clarke and Andy Gurr won the opening pairs game 2-0 against Mick Clarke and Jason Yates. In the second pair with the score at one leg apiece Justin Terry left Kevin Reilly a shot at a double for the Royals but Pete Crossley (playing with Neil Smith) stepped up to take out a 122 finish (T18, 18, bull) to make the match score one all. Greyhound then came from one nil down in the final pairs against Chris Clewer and Rob Metcalfe to seal the title with Kez Botting (pictured) (partnered by Andy MacIntosh) taking out 88 in the decisive leg. Although the title was lost Royal Bridges battled to share the six singles with wins from Andy Gurr, Ron Clarke and Kevin Reilly. Greyhound's singles winners were Pete Crossley, Jason Yates and Kez Botting. Yates hit two maximums for Greyhound and Gurr and Reilly hit one apiece for Royal Bridges. High finishes were struck by Botting (141), Crossley (122), Ron Clarke (120) and Ian Holman (100). In the other Premier Division matches both RS Bumbles and the Charcoal Burner comfortably beat Longley C and Bridges 8-1, with Bridges defeat condemning them to the A Division for next season. Tony Arnold and Tommy Lewis hit 180s for RS Bumbles and Darren Gale had a 106 checkout. Charcoal Burner players Adam Campbell, Graham Cargan, Richard Stanford and Ken Sowerby all hit maximums as did Darren Schollar for Bridges while Jason Terry checked out on 121. Dingles will replace Bridges in the Premier Division following their 7-2 victory over relegated Three Bridges A, the Labour Club side ended up three points clear of the Conservative Club at the top, after the Blues crashed at home 5-4 to Labour Blasters. Despite losing 5-4 to APV, the Railway Club avoided relegation, leaving the Imperial who had no game, to join Three Bridges A in the B Division next season. Pelham Buckle finished the season in fine style as they took the B Division title with a 9-0 victory over the long time leaders Labour Rats, their second 9-0 win in succession. Rugby Club who beat the Blocbusters 8-1 with Ian Hodder notching a 180 for the Willoughby Road side finished in runners-up spot while Heathy Farmer ended bottom following their 6-3 defeat by the Paymasters.
Week 20 Round-up (24th April 2009) by Dave Miles
Graeme CarganReigning League Champions the Greyhound moved closer to retaining their Championship after an hard fought 5-4 victory over the Charcoal Burner at the Pelham Buckle in Ifield. Four maximums were struck during the game, Del Furminger hit one for the Greyhound, while Adam Campbell, and Graeme Cargan (pictured) with a brace hit back for the Burner. There were also two big checkouts hit, Kez Botting with 122, and Campbell with 118. Royal Bridges 5-4 win over the Diamonds cements the Runners-Up spot, and they still have an outside chance of piping the Greyhound for the title, if they beat them 8-1 in next weeks encounter. Ian Holman and Kevin Reilly both struck 180's for the Royals and Justin Terry checked out on 124 as the Diamonds ended their season with a defeat, leaving them in third place. In the battle to avoid the drop, Longley C took a big step towards safety by beating Bridges 6-3 to record only their second win of the season with Ernie Potter and Graham Martin taking out a 12 dart leg in the pairs. It’s a two horse race to be crowned A Division Champions with both leaders Conservative Club and Dingles on identical records and points, but the Blues have more 180's to just give them the edge.  Both teams produced 6-3 victories in their latest outings. Blues beating APV, while the Dingles overcame the Railway Club in a tough fought game at the Labour Club. Railway need one point from their final game against APV to avoid the drop into the B Division. Also facing the drop are the Imperial, the Broadfield side crashed 6-3 to the already doomed Three Bridges A, this despite a maximum from Ron Webster (his third of the season). Ben Harrington also hit a 180 in reply for the Three Bridges side. Labour Blasters and APV remain safe for another year, finishing mid table. Labour Rats lead at the top of the B Division, has whittle down to just one point, following their heavy 7-2 defeat by the Rugby Club. Pelham Buckle are now second after their 9-0 win against bottom side Heathy Farmers while Rugby Club are third. Blocbusters beat Paymasters 6-3 to keep their promotion chances alive. The Rats face the in form Pelham Buckle, while the Rugby Club visit the Blocbusters in the last matches with any of the four sides in with a chance of gaining promotion.
Week 19 Round-up (17th April 2009) by Dave Miles
Andy GurrThis weeks Premier Division games produced seven maximums, and a number of high checkouts. Leaders Greyhound extended their lead to five points following their 8-1 thumping of Longley C, Pete Crossley struck his eleventh maximum for the Greyhound, while team mate Andy Macintosh and Longley's Andy Baller also hit the magic 180. Royal Bridges inflicted a heavy 7-2 defeat on the Charcoal Burner to move above the Diamonds into second place, Andy Gurr (pictured) for the Royals, and the Burners Ken Sowerby both posted maximums, Gurr also hit a 130 finish, but that was topped by a great 149 checkout from Adam Campbell of the Burner. RS Bumbles ended any chance of Diamonds winning this seasons crown, when beating them 6-3, even 180's from Colin Whiley and Phil Smith  couldn't save them from defeat, the Bees skipper Tony Arnold celebrated victory by hitting a 112 finish. All this leaves the Greyhound and Royal Bridges to battle it out for the title, with both sides meeting in the final weeks matches. Longley C are a point above Bridges in the battle to avoid the drop, with the sides meeting next week. Only more 180's scored separates the top two in the A Division. Both the Conservative Club and Dingles have level points and wins, but the Blues better number of maximums just splits them. This week the Blues edged a thriller with the Railway Club 5-4, while Dingles had an easier time beating the Imperial 6-3. Labour Blasters eased their relegation fears, when beating the already relegated Three Bridges A 6-3, leaving Tony Cross's fine 115 finish for Three Bridges all in vain. The battle to win promotion lies between the top two, while either Labour Blasters or the Imperial are likely to face the drop with Three Bridges A, as both sides only have only one game to play. B Division leaders Labour Rats put behind them their recent bad run of form, to soundly beat the Blocbusters 7-2, even a 180 from Jim Relph couldn't spur the Blocbusters on, this win leaves the Rats favourites for one of the two promotion places, but they must be looking over their shoulders at the Pelham Buckle as the Ifield side notched their tenth straight win when beating Paymasters 8-1. Steve Horn posted a fine 111 finish for the Pelhams as his side move up to second spot level with the Rugby Club, but with a better match wins record. The Rugby Club did grab a win, they beat Heathy Farmers 6-3, but it proved to be not enough to hold onto their second spot. The final round of fixtures in two weeks time pits the top two against each other in what will be a title decider.
Week 18 Round-up (3rd April 2009) by Ian Holman and Dave Miles
Steve MecrowDiamonds moved back up to second in the Premier Division table although they did have two defeats in the match with Colin Whiley losing 3-0 to Roly Ratcliffe, and Graham Brook losing to Lee Nichols. Paul Woods struck a maximum for Diamonds, while teammates Steve Mecrow (pictured) (160), & Graham Brook (101) hit big checkouts, and not to be out done, Darren Schollar (137), and Nichols (115) responded for the Bridges. Royal Bridges dropped to third as they were beaten 6-3 by RS Bumbles with Ron Clarke being the only Royal to win a Singles match. Alex Whiteside hit a maximum for the Bees and Stan Jackson had a 127 checkout. In the other top division match Charcoal burner beat Longley C 8-1 with Adam Campbell and Richard Stanford banging in 180s and Stanford checking out on 121 for the victors. Dingles are just a point behind leaders Conservative Club in the A Division. as they grabbed a 6-3 win against Labour Blasters. The Railway club came away from the Imperial with a 5-4 victory, this despite Dan Bradford hitting his third 180 of the season, and Ron Webster his second maximum for the Imperial. The final game in the Division saw a 7-2 win for APV over the already relegated Three Bridges A. Who will join them in the B Division next season remains on hold as Railway Club, Imperial and Labour Blasters are only separated by just two points, leaving the Con Club, Dingles & APV battling it out for the one promotion place at stake. Labour Rats incredibly stay top of the B Division after suffering their third straight defeat, this time at the hands of the Paymasters 5-4, for whom Laurie Shepherd notched his second  180 of the season. The Rugby Club stay in the second promotion spot despite going down to the inform Pelham Buckle 6-3. Gary Simpson's 113 finish for the Pelhams proving to be the only highlight. Harry Spencer's 180 for the Blocbusters helped his side overcome Heathy Farmers 5-4. This leaves the Division very tight, with just nine points covering the top five places.
Secretary's Cup (27th March 2009) by Dave Miles and Ian Holman
Pete Crossley
Pete Crossley (pictured) (Greyhound) won this seasons Secretary's cup at Three Bridges Football Club, beating Pelham Buckle's Gary Simpson 2-1. The victory included a 180 and a 16 darts final leg. Earlier in the evening Crossley beat Phil Smith (Diamonds) 2-0 in the semi-finals while Simpson got the better of Adam Campbell (Charcoal Burner) 2-1.
Captains Cup (27th March 2009) by Dave Miles and Ian Holman
Steve MecrowThis seasons Captains Cup Competition held at Three Bridges Football club saw former champions Mick Curren (Royal Bridges) and Dave Miles (Greyhound) both make it through to the latter stages where they both went out to the eventual new champion Steve Mecrow (pictured) (Diamonds). Miles going out 2-1 in the Semis, while Curren lost out 2-0 in the Final.
Week 17 Round-up (20th March 2009) by Ian Holman and Dave Miles
Greyhound starJason YatesGreyhound continued their good form as they beat Diamonds 6-3 in a high scoring encounter in a top of the table clash at Three Bridges Football Club this week. Maximums were struck from Greyhounds, Jason Yates (pictured) (his 12th of the season), Neil Smith and Mick Clarke and diamonds' Nick Edwards. Colin Whiley had the highest checkout of the night of 121 for Diamonds. Royal Bridges moved upto second with a 7-2 win against Longley C and RS Bumbles defeated Bridges 9-0 with a 180 from Alex Whiteside and a 114 finish from Alan Burling. A Division leaders Conservative Club trounced the bottom side Three Bridges A 8-1 to move seven points clear of the Dingles, who beat APV 6-3, Bob Casey's 101 finish turned out to be just a consolation for his side's defeat. Ron Webster was in good form for the Imperial, his maximum helped spur the Broadfield side to a 5-4 win over Labour Blasters, thus ending a three match losing streak. Heathy Farmers caused a big upset in the B Division when recording their first win of the season after a losing sequence of 15 games, to make it all the more surprising, their win was over the current leaders Labour Rats, but dispite going down 5-4 to the Farmers, the Rats still retain top spot while The Rugby Club posted a 6-3 win over the Paymasters. Laurie Shepherd (Paymasters) grabbed his first 180 of the season as some scant reward. The Pelham Buckle must be rueing the lost points at the start of the season, because the Divisions inform side's 7-2 win over the Blocbusters was there eight straight victory with their skipper Steve Horn celebrated their win with a maximum.
Week 16 Round-up (13th March 2009) by Ian Holman and Dave Miles
Andy MacIntoshThe Greyhound continue to lead the way at the top of the Premier Division as they came from 2-0 down to beat RS Bumbles 6-3 with Andy MacIntosh (pictured) in terrific form, hitting two maximums and a 141 checkout. Also hitting maximums for the current league champions were county players Pete Crossley and Neil Smith while Mick Clarke checked out on 120. Second placed Diamonds also won 6-3 against Charcoal Burner with Colin Whiley taking out a 12 dart leg and also hitting a 126 finish. Third placed Royal Bridges stay in touch thanks to a 7-2 win against Bridges with two maximums for Kevin Reilly and one for Rob Metcalfe. Ron Clarke struck a 129 finish. Both the top two in the A Division were beaten, leaders the Conservative Club stay top despite losing 5-4 to the Dingles who move into second, five points adrift with a game in hand. Labour Blasters drop to third following their 6-3 defeat by the Railway Club,  and APV lie a close fourth after their second win over the Imperial in a week. They followed up their Consolation Cup thrashing last week with a 6-3 win. As in the A Division, the top two in the B Division both lost out, leaders Labour Rats crashed 8-1 to the inform Pelham Buckle, the Ifield side made it seven successive wins as they move slowly up the table after a terrible start to the season. Blocbusters lost 7-2 against the Rugby Club while Paymasters were another side to fight back from 2-0 down as they beat Heathy Farmers 7-2.
Knockout Cup & Consolation Cup Quarter-Finals (6th March 2009) by Dave Miles and Ian Holman
Paul BurrowsThe Quarter-Finals of the Knockout Cup and Consolation Cup saw the elite of the League, against the potential giant killers from the lower divisions. One of the Knockout Cup ties had the reigning holders Greyhound visit the Paymasters of the B Division, but despite Micky Barber & Laurie Shepherd's efforts the hosts couldn't muster up a single win, eventually going down 8-0, the Greyhound's Andy McIntosh produced his sides only highlight when hitting a fine 129 checkout. Royal Bridges made it through to their first Semi, by seeing off the Conservative Club 6-2, helped by maximums from Kevin Reilly & Rob Metcalfe, also joining them are last seasons Cup finalists the Diamonds, they went through beating the Labour Blasters of the A Division 7-1.
