Horsham 5s Win Inter-League Competition by Dave Miles

At a packed Three Bridges Football Club on Friday night, the Horsham 5s team (pictured) were crowned Sussex Inter-League Champions, after a tense final against Billingshurst they eventually emerged victorious 5-4.

In the semis Horsham 5s League ended the Crawley Friday Darts Leagues hopes of retaining the Cup won in Horsham last year.  Hot favourites Crawley were sent crashing 6-3, this after Crawley won the opening two games through Martin Burchell & Pete Crossley, Horsham fought back and levelled the match with wins for Neil Smith & Kez Botting, further victories for Lee Gladman [Crawley] & Dave Miles [Horsham] kept it  level at 3-3, thereafter Nigel Panton, Andy Mason & Gary Strong proved too good for Crawley giving Horsham a comfortable win. Nine 180s were hit in the match, Strong [2], Panton [2] and Miles for Horsham, while Burchell [2], Mick Clarke and Richard Stanford replied for Crawley.

Billinghurst went through to the final by soundly beating the Chichester side 7-2 represented by the Regnum darts League, wins for Andy Alderton, Tony Ayres, John Dawes, Dave Bullen, Brian Stevens, Chas Johnstone & Ady Davey clinched the game, Chichester picked up there wins via Del Smith & Pat O`Hara.

Crawley with wins from Burchell, Crossley, Clarke, Gladman & Andy Gurr beat Chichester for 3rd place 5-0, 180s during this game came for Andy Gurr [Crawley] and Adie Linfield [2] Chichester.

The final proved to be an exciting encounter, with Horsham having to come from being 4-2 down to win the Cup.   Strong & Botting edged Horsham in front, but Billingshurst hit back by taking the next four games through Ayres, Bullen, Johnstone & Stevens to lead 4-2. Needing to win all three remaining games, Horsham rallied, firstly Andy Mason, then Dave Ansell levelled the scores. It was left to the youngest player competing Doug Mason to clinch a remarkable Horsham 5s victory when he beat Ady Davey. Strong for Horsham and Ayres, Bullen for Billingshurst all hit 180s in the Final.
