2008 League Format
Included in the ten teams competing in the Sussex Super League West Division this season are four teams from the area. They are Broadbridge Heath, Crawley, Roffey and Warnham. As usual each team plays each other home and away on a league basis. Each match is played over nine sets of singles, each best of five legs of 501 straight up. A point is awarded for each set won plus a two point bonus for the winning team. The winning team at the end of the season will play off with the East Division winners to decide the season's champions.

Lee GladmanPlenty of 180s and big finishes this week as Crawley and Roffey head the table. In the match between Bognor Regis and Worthing the Charcoal Burner pair of Lee Gladman (pictured) and Richard Stanford were in top form. Stanford won in the deciding leg of his set finishing with a 180 and a 150 checkout for a 29 average. Gladman followed this with a tough set against Sussex Ladies player Trish Kidd, going a leg down before taking the next three which included a 160 checkout for the week's highest average of 30.03. Worthing won the match 6-3 with further 180s from Bognor's Chris Gatford and Simon C Rodgers and Worthing's James Greenfield and Peter Stoner. Gary Blackwood had a 142 finish and Mick Rodgers a 136 finish for Bognor while Greenfield checked out on 107 for Worthing. Roffey's 8-1 win against Bevendean Blues included a 180 for Dean Edlin and finishes of 129 for Jason Yates, 111 for Dave Fry and 101 for Kez Botting. Adam Smith checked out on 105 for Bevendean Blues. Neil Smith returned from holiday with a 25.05 average to take man of the match. Crawley won at Broadbridge Heath by the same score with PDC players Tony Ayres and Martin Burchell sharing the man of the match award with averages of 25.47. Colin Whiley and Steve Mecrow hit maximums for Crawley while Ron Clarke checked out on 125. Heath's Charlie Johnstone checked out on 106. Ian Perkins was man of the match again this week for Bevendean Reds with a 25.47 average as they beat Warnham 5-4. 180s in this match came from the Reds, Perkins, Mark Davis and Peter Sopp while Les Vanner finished on 100 for the Brighton side.  In the week's other match Portslade beat Chichester 6-3 with Alex Rudwick taking man of the match with a 22.19 average. Steve Penny and Dave Allen struck 180s for Portslade and John Nicholson hit the top score for Chichester.

Pete CrossleyLeaders Roffey won 5-4 this week against Bognor Regis with Pete Crossley (pictured) hitting two 180s and Dave Mansell one. Bognor's Jason Hills won Man of the Match with 28.90 average, Simon C Rodgers hit a 180 and Mick Rodgers checked out on 104. Nick Edwards was Man of the Match for Crawley as they won 6-3 at Chichester where Chi's Graeme Dutton hit a maximum. The week's biggest winners were Worthing. They won 7-2 at Warnham with Ken Sowerby Man of the Match with a 24.64 average and Chris Walker scoring a 180. Portslade beat Broadbridge Heath 5-4 with Paul Robinson Man of the Match for Portslade with a 24.24 average. Dave Hetherington and Alex Rudwick both had maximums for Portslade. The fixture between Bevendean Blues and Bevendean Reds was postponed.
Catch-up Week (Wednesday 6th August 2008) by Ian Holman
Steve MecrowThere were just two catch-up matches played this week with Crawley winning 7-2 away to Bevendean Reds where Ian Perkins continued his excellent form for the Reds taking the Man of the Match with a 29.81 average. 180s were struck by Perkins and Tony Ayres with Steve Mecrow (pictured) (Crawley) checking out on 120, Dave Flemming (Reds) 118 and Simon Parsons (Reds) 106. Winners for Crawley were Ron Clarke, Ayres, Ian Holman, Phil Smith, Colin Whiley, Andy Gurr and Mecrow. In the other match Broadbridge Heath won 6-3 against Chichester. 
Week 9 Round-up (Wednesday 30th July 2008) by Ian Holman
Jason YatesThe top of the table clash between Roffey and Bevendean Reds went the way of Roffey 6-3. The Reds won the opening set with in-form Sid Perkins producing another Man of the Match display with a 28.36 average. Roffey then won the next two with wins from Kez Botting and Dean Edlin. The Brighton side then went 3-2 as Geoff Taylor and Russell Vanner won before Roffey took the final four sets with wins from Danny King, Jason Yates (pictured), Pete Crossley and Dave Mansell. Edlin and King struck 180s for Roffey and Simon Parsons hit one for Bevendean Reds. The evenings other games all finished with the same 6-3 scoreline. Crawley won away to Bevendean Blues with Kevin Fishwick the Man of the Match for Crawley for the second week running with a 28.36 average. 180s were struck in this match by Ron Clarke, Fishwick and steve Mecrow for Crawley and Shaun Sandalls for Bevendean Blues. Richard Stanford was Man of the Match in Worthing's win at Broadbridge Heath with a 25.29 average. Ken Sowerby hit the divisions highest checkout of the week for worthing with a 129 and team-mate James Greenfield had finishes of 120 and 115. Bognor won at Portslade with Jason Hills earning Man of the Match with a 28.34 average and Portslade's Steve Penny checking out on 100. There were three maximums in this match or Bognor, two for Gary Blackwood and one for Chris Gatford. In the other match Mick Short was Man of the Match for Warnham with a 25.91 average in their defeat against Chichester whose Rob Misselbrook fired in a 180 and John Nicholson had a 114 checkout.
Week 8 Round-up (Wednesday 23rd July 2008) by Ian Holman
Dean EdlinBevendean Reds and Roffey remain unbeaten and head the league table with 63 points after this weeks matches. Bevendean Reds are back on top on legs difference after beating Portslade 7-2. Ian Perkins was in top form again taking Man of the Match with a 31.31 average that included a 180. Roffey's win came at GSK and dented Crawley's title hopes as they stormed into a 4-0 lead with wins from Dave Fry, Kez Botting, Pete Crossley and Danny King. Colin Whiley then pulled one back for the hosts before Neil Smith took Roffey over the winning line. Ron Clarke and Man of the Match Kevin Fishwick (28.36 average) won two of the remaining sets for Crawley and Dean Edlin (pictured) continued his good form with another Roffey win. Eight maximums were hit in the match, two from Phil Smith (Crawley) and one each from teammates Nick Edwards, Tony Ayres and Ron Clarke. Roffey's 180s came from Kez Botting, Gary Newman and Jason Yates. Worthing beat Chichester 7-2 with James Greenfield and Richard Stanford sharing Man of the Match with averages of 28.36. Bognor Regis narrowly beat Broadbridge Heath 5-4 with Jason Hills taking Man of the Match with a 25.99 average and Chris Gatford firing in two 180s. In the other match Bevendean Blues picked up their first win of the season 8-1 away to Warnham. Dave Williams took Man of the Match there with a 22.83 average.    
Week 7 Round-up (Wednesday 16th July 2008) by Ian Holman
A 161 checkout from Kez BottingLast week's league leaders Bevendean Reds continued their unbeaten run this week but only managed a 5-4 win against Bognor Regis with Mick Rodgers of Bognor claiming the man of the match with a 26.08 average. The narrow win allowed Roffey to go top as they beat Warnham 8-1 with Kez Botting (pictured) hitting an excellent 161 checkout to complete a fifth leg 12 dart finish. Dean Edlin was man of the match with a 27.33 average which included one of Roffey's five maximums. Gary Newman hit two of them with Pete Crossley and Dave Fry striking the others. Crawley also kept in touch with the top two as they won 9-0 at Portslade with Tony Ayres taking man of the match with a 28.36 average. 180s for Crawley were struck by Ron Clarke, Nick Edwards, Colin Whiley and debutant Kevin Fishwick. In the other result Worthing beat Bevendean Blues 8-1 with James Greenfield taking man of the match with a 28.90 average.  
Week 6 Round-up (Wednesday 9th July 2008) by Ian Holman
Danny KingCrawley moved back up to third this week after their 6-3 win against Bognor Regis. The first six sets were shared with Tim Grinstead, Chris Gatford and Mick Rodgers winning for Bognor and Colin Whiley, Steve Mecrow and Ron Clarke winning for Crawley. Phil Smith, Danny King (pictured) and Martin Burchell then completed Crawley's win. King won Man of the Match for Crawley with a 27.13 average closely followed by Mecrow with 27.00 and Burchell with 26.84. 180s were hit by Tim Grinstead and Gary Blackwood for Bognor and Ron Clarke for Crawley. The win leaves Crawley ten points adrift of league leaders Bevendean Reds who beat Broadbridge Heath 8-1 with Ian Perkins Man of the Match with a 28.36 average and former Sussex County captain Geoff Taylor checking out on 170. Roffey remain second despite their match at Worthing being cancelled while Portslade climbed to fifth after a 6-3 win at Warnham with Lee Jennings recording a 25.91 average. Finally, Chichester won their first match of the season as they edged past Bevendean Blues 5-4 with Blues' player Gary Norman the Man of the Match with a 22.77 average.
Week 5 Round-up (Wednesday 2nd July 2008) by Ian Holman
Pete CrossleyRoffey continued their excellent start to the season with a 9-0 win against Chichester, dropping just two legs all evening. Dave Fry and Dean Edlin both recorded averages of 24.24 winning their sets 3-0. There were also 3-0 wins for Pete Crossley (pictured), Dave Mansell, Jason Yates, Kez Botting and Neil Smith with Justin Terry and Gary Newman winning 3-1. Crossley finished his opening leg in 15 darts with a 108 checkout. The match between former leaders Bevendean Reds and Crawley was cancelled while Bognor Regis moved up to third in the table with a 7-2 win against Warnham with Jason Hills recording a 24.66 average. Broadbridge Heath got back to winning ways after a couple of defeats with a 7-2 victory over Bevendean Blues with Greg Upton striking two maximums for Heath and Gary Norman of the Blues winning man of the match with a 22.59 average.
Week 4 Round-up (Wednesday 25th June 2008) by Ian Holman
13 dart leg from Nigel PantonRoffey remain in second spot this week with their unbeaten record still in tact after beating bottom of the table Bevendean Blues 8-1. Roffey players Nigel Panton (pictured), Neil Smith and Jason Yates shared the Man of the Match award with a 26.37 average. Panton's included a 109 checkout in the first leg of his win and a 13 dart second leg. Yates hit a 180 and there were also wins for Gary Newman, Pete Crossley, Dave Mansell, Dean Edlin and Kez Botting with Justin Terry losing his set 3-2.
Crawley remain third after their 7-2 win against Broadbridge Heath. Winners for Crawley were Man of the Match, Martin Burchell (27.83 average), Kevin Reilly (on his debut), Danny King, Nick Edwards, Ron Clarke, Andy Gurr and Tony Ayres. There were defeats for Steve Mecrow against Dave Ansell and Colin Whiley against John Dawes. Leaders Bevendean Reds won 8-1 at Warnham, Bognor Regis won 5-4 at Worthing and Portslade won also won 5-4 at Chichester. 
Week 3 Round-up (Wednesday 18th June 2008) by Ian Holman

Crawley got their Sussex County Summer League campaign back on track with a 7-2 win against Warnham at GSK on Wednesday 18th June. Tony Ayres gave Crawley the lead win a 3-1 win against Mick Peacock hitting two maximums in one leg and recording a 25.97 average. Andy Alderton then levelled the scores with a 3-0 win against Andy Mason then Nick Edwards got his first win of the season for Crawley before Ian Holman lost on his debut 3-0 against Mick Short. Crawley then rattled off the next five sets with wins from Colin Whiley, Ron Clarke (pictured), Danny King, Martin Burchell (pictured) and captain Phil Smith. Burchell won Man Of The Match with a 27.42 average.
After a tricky start to the match Roffey recorded their third straight win of the Sussex Super League season on Wednesday 18th June when they beat Broadbridge Heath at Broadbridge Heath Village Centre 7-2. Nigel Panton came from 2-0 down against Doug Mason to win 3-2 and give Roffey a crucial opening set lead. Pete Crossley was then beaten 3-1 by Steve Adsett as Heath levelled. Roffey then won the next six sets through Kez Botting (pictured), Justin Terry, Neil Smith, Jason Yates, Dean Edlin and Dave Mansell. Gary Newman is still looking for his first win as he lost the final set 3-1 against Charlie Johnstone. Mansell was Man of the Match with a 24.71 average.
The weeks other games saw leaders Bevendean Reds fight back from 4-2 down to beat Worthing 5-4, Portslade beat Bevendean Reds 7-2 and Bognor Regis beat Chichester 5-4.
Week 2 Round-up (Wednesday 11th June 2008) by Ian Holman
Man of the Match Charlie JohnstoneBroadbridge Heath continued their good start to the Sussex Super League West Division season with a 7-2 win at Warnham on Wednesday evening following their opening 5-4 win against Portslade the previous week. Heath opened up with wins for Ian Homewood, Doug Mason and Dave Ansell. Mick Short then won the next for Warnham before Heath picked up the four straight sets with wins from Mick Clarke, Adrian Davey, Charlie Johnstone (pictured) and Steve Adsett. Mike Williams then won the last set for Warnham. Johnstone won Man of the Match with a 23.76 average that included a 114 checkout. Adsett hit a 136 finish and Davey a 102 while Andy Alderton checked out on 100 for Warnham.
Crawley continued their stuttering start to the season at The Globe in Worthing, throwing away a 4-2 lead to lose 5-4. Things started well for Crawley as Andy Gurr beat County player Andy Stanford 3-2 but Tony Ayres then lost by the same score against Steve Graham. Crawley took the next two sets with wins for Martin Burchell and Colin Whiley. Ron Clarke then lost out to James Greenfield before Steve Mecrow restored Crawley's two game advantage. Danny King, Nick Edwards and Phil Smith lost the last three sets against Richard Stanford, Lee Gladman and County player Ken Sowerby. Whiley won Man of the Match with a 26.84 average which included a 180. Graham hit two 180s for Worthing.
After their good start to the season last week against Bognor Regis, Roffey picked up another win, but this time they had to wait until newcomer Justin Terry (pictured) won the last set of the evening, three nil against Andy Taylor. Earlier, Gary Newman lost the opening set against Andy MacIntosh before Roffey reeled off two wins thanks to County players Dave Mansell and Pete Crossley. Alex Rudwick levelled for Portslade with a win against Kez Botting before Nigel Panton restored Roffey's lead. Portslade then went 4-3 up with wins from Paul Burnett and Lee Jennings. Neil Smith made it 4-4 before Terry sealed Roffey's win. Burnett won Man of the Match with a 23.61 average, there were 180s for Roffey's Newman, Edlin and Smith and two for Portslade's Jennings. Smith had the highest checkout of the evening with a 140 and MacIntosh had a 106 finish.
Bevendean Reds beat Chichester 8-1 and currently lead the league table. Ian Perkins was in top form for the Reds with a 28.36 average that included a 180. Chichester's Chris Osbourne checked out on 151 for the Division's highest finish of the week. In the other match this week Mick Rodgers was Man of the Match with a 26.37 average as Bognor Regis won 6-3 away to Bevendean Blues.
Week 1 Round-up (Wednesday 4th June 2008) by Ian Holman
Martin BurchellThe Sussex Super League got under way with new side Crawley winning their opening West Division game 5-4 in unconvincing fashion against Chichester at GSK. Crawley raced into a three-nil lead with wins from Tony Ayres (3-0), Colin Whiley (3-0) and Martin Burchell (pictured) (3-1). Chichester then fought back by taking three of the next four sets as Steve Mecrow lost 3-2, Danny King won 3-2, Nick Edwards lost 3-2 and Andy Gurr lost 3-0. Phil Smith then won 3-0 to clinch the match for Crawley before Andy Mason was beaten 3-1 in the final set. Burchell was Man of the Match with a 25.39 average, hitting a 180 along the way. Mason hit a 177. Roffey won 6-3 away to Bognor Regis with Jason Yates hitting a 180 and a 107 checkout and Dean Edlin checking out on 154. In the other games, Broadbridge Heath won 5-4 against Portslade, last season's divisional winners Bevendean Reds beat Bevendean Blues 8-1 and Worthing beat Warnham 6-3.
