2009 League Format
Included in the ten teams competing in the Sussex Super League West Division this season are one new team. They are Mid Sussex. Chichester have pulled out of the league while Bevendean Blues are now called Brighton Newmarket and Warnham are now called Roffey Royals.  As usual each team plays each other home and away on a league basis. Each match is played over nine sets of singles, each best of five legs of 501 straight up. A point is awarded for each set won plus a two point bonus for the winning team. The winning team at the end of the season will play off with the East Division winners to decide the season's champions.

James GreenfieldWorthing stay a point ahead of Crawley after this weeks games as they both picked up 5-4 victories. Worthing beat fourth placed Mid Sussex. Wins from James Greenfield (pictured), Richard Stanford, Ken Sowerby and Lee Gladman gave the league leaders a 4-0 lead before Dave Awcock got the first win on the board for Mid Sussex. Andy Stanford then sealed a win for Worthing as he took out 130 in the fifth leg against Davey Mansell in a high scoring set. Mid Sussex then reeled off the last three sets with wins from Gary Newman, Dean Edlin and Mark Harwood. Man of the match was Greenfield with a 27.53 average that included a 180 and a score of 177. Mid Sussex players Edlin and Harwood also hit 180s and there were other high finishes from Worthing's Lee Gladman (120) and Richard Stanford (115) and Mid Sussex's Davey Mansell (118). Crawley's win came against local rivals Roffey. Crawley raced into a 3-0 lead with wins from Kevin Fishwick, Phil Smith and Andy Gurr before Roffey stormed back with wins from Tony Peters, Neil Smith, Kez Botting and Jason Yates. Crawley then came from 4-3 to take the match with wins from Adam Campbell and Steve Horn. Yates took man of the match with a 27.33 average and there were maximums from Crawley's Andy Gurr, Kevin Reilly and Campbell and Roffey's Botting. Botting also took out 110 and Fishwick finished on 124. Portslade beat Roffey Royals 5-4 with 180s from Alan Brown and Adam Griffiths. Griffiths also checked out on 114 and Dave Hetherington finished on 111. Tony Ayres took man of the match with a 26.84 average. Broadbridge Heath beat Brighton Newmarket 7-2 with Steve Adsett winning man of the match with a 21.87 average. There were no 180s or high finishes in this match. Finally, Bevendean Reds beat Bognor Regis 6-3 with Bognor's Chris Gatford claiming man of the match with a 26.84 average. Gatford also hit a 180 as did teammate Pat O'Hara and Bevendean Reds' Russell Vanner. Vanner also finished on 108 and Bognor's George Hibbert finished on 120.

Worthing still lead the way after getting back to winning form this week with a 7-2 win at Bognor Regis. Peter Stoner (Worthing) took man of the match with a 27.33 average while Ken Sowerby (Worthing) checked out on 121. 180s were struck by Richard Stanford (Worthing) and Matt Bourner (Bognor Regis). Crawley are just a point behind Worthing after their 8-1 win against Brighton Newmarket. Kevin Fishwick was in good form again with another man of the match performance (28.46 average) that included a 109 finish. Newmarket's Craig Deeley and Crawley's Ian Holman both finished on 115 and there were maximums for Newmarket's Mick Bird and Crawley's Colin Whiley and Steve Horn. Roffey stay third after their 9-0 win against Roffey Royals. Jason Yates (pictured) (Roffey) had the best performance of the week with a 32.67 average that included a 180. Yates' won his set 3-0 with legs of 17, 16 and 13 darts. Neil Smith hit three 180s for Roffey and teammate Tom Walker hit one 180. Mid Sussex beat Broadbridge Heath 6-3 with Dave Awcock (Mid Sussex) taking man of the match with a 25.05 average and Broadbridge Heath's Ady Davey hit a 180. Portslade ended their run of three defeats with a 6-3 win against Bevendean Reds. Portslade's Alex Rudwick won man of the match with a 26.11 average, Dan Waller (Bevendean Reds) hit a 180 as well as a 130 finish and there were further 180s from Reds' Martin Baker and Darren Baker and Portslade's Martin Brown.
Week 9 (Wednesday 15th July 2009) by Ian Holman
Nathan PearceBroadbridge Heath pulled off the shock of the season when they went to league leaders Worthing and came away with a 5-4 win this week. Charlie Johnstone took the man of the match award for Broadbridge Heath with a 26.84 average and teammate Ady Davey hit a 180. Peter Stoner checked out on 111 for Worthing. Crawley are now just two points off the top as they beat fourth placed Mid Sussex 5-4 with wins from Adam Campbell, Ian Holman, Kevin Fishwick, Andy Gurr, Gary Simpson and Steve Mecrow. Fishwick won his seventh man of the match of the season with another 27.33 average. 180s were hit by Crawley's Adam Campbell and Mid Sussex's Davey Mansell while Dean Edlin took out 116 for Mid Sussex. Roffey Royals won their fourth match of the season as they beat Brighton Newmarket 6-3 with England Open Boys Youth winner Nathan Pearce (pictured) taking man of the match for the Royals with a 27.47 average. Teammate Nigel Panton hit the only 180 of this match. Bognor Regis picked up their first win of the season with a 7-2 result against Portslade. Simon Casey-Rodgers took man of the match with a 23.81 average and 180s were hit by Bognor's Chris Gatford and Portslade's Andy MacIntosh. The match between Bevendean Reds and Roffey was postponed.
Week 8 (Wednesday 8th July 2009) by Ian Holman
Lee GladmanWorthing's lead at the top is now six points after their 7-2 win against Portslade and Crawley's 6-3 win against Broadbridge Heath this week. Lee Gladman (pictured) won man of the match for Worthing with a 28.22 average while teammates Richard Stanford finished on 138 and James Greenfield 108. Crawley's Kevin Fishwick won his sixth man of the match award in seven matches with a 27.33 average at the Broadbridge Heath Village Centre. This included a 180 and a 100 finish. Other 180s were hit by Crawley's Adam Campbell and Colin Whiley and Broadbridge Heath's Greg Upton. Kevin Reilly also finished on 100. Neil Smith continued his excellent form for Roffey as he took man of the match with a 25.91 average in their 5-4 win against bottom of the table Bognor Regis. 180s in this match came from Bognor trio Chris Gatford, Tony Peters and Simon Casey-Rodgers. Mid Sussex stay fourth in the table as they beat Roffey Royals 7-2. Gary Newman took man of the match for Mid Sussex with a 23.96 average while the Royals' Gary Kennard and Kevin Downes both struck maximums. In the other match this week the two Brighton sides met with Bevendean Reds winning 5-4 away to Brighton Newmarket. Newmarket's Steve Penny had an impressive 27.33 average to win man of the match. Bev Reds pair Dave Fleming and Dan Waller both hit 180s and Craig Deeley finished on 104 for the Newmarket. 
Week 7 (Wednesday 1st July 2009) by Ian Holman
Kevin FishwickThe top two in the league met this week with leaders Worthing hosting last year's champions Crawley at The Globe. Crawley got off to a good start with wins from Ian Holman and Phil Smith before Worthing took the next four with wins from John Johnstone, Andy Stanford, Ken Sowerby and James Greenfield. Man of the match Kevin Fishwick (pictured) (27.49 average) pulled one back for Crawley before Richard Stanford sealed a Worthing win. Crawley's Colin Whiley took the last set leaving Worthing 5-4 winners, ending Crawley's unbeaten record and extending their lead at the top to five points. Crawley's Adam Campbell hit the only maximum of the match and there were finishes of 116 for Worthing's Lee Gladman and 100 for Crawley's Andy Gurr. Roffey remain in third spot after a 5-4 win at Portslade with Roffey pair Jason Yates and Neil Smith sharing the man of the match award with averages of 25.91. 180s were hit by Roffey's Rob Cross and Tom Walker and Portslade's Tim Norris. Mid Sussex also picked up a 5-4 result as they won away to Bevendean Reds. The Reds' Simon Parsons took man of the match with a 27.73 average and there were maximums from his teammates Oliver Sopp, Les Vanner and Dave Fleming. Derek Furminger also struck a maximum for Mid Sussex. Bognor Regis are still looking for their first win of the season after going down 6-3 at home to Brighton Newmarket. Bognor's Graeme Dutton won the man of the match award with a 22.86 average while teammates Chris Gatford hit a 180 and Simon Casey-Rodgers checked out on 112. Newmarket's Craig Deeley checked out on 170. The match between Roffey Royals and Broadbridge Heath was postponed.    
Week 6 (Wednesday 24th June 2009) by Ian Holman
Dean EdlinWorthing's lead at the top of the table was cut from nine points to two points this week as they suffered their first defeat of the season, going down 5-4 to third placed Roffey while Crawley remain unbeaten after a 9-0 win against Roffey Royals. In the Worthing vs Roffey clash, Pete Crossley, Jason Yates and Neil Smith hit 180s for Roffey while James Greenfield and Andy Stanford found the top score for Worthing. Roffey's Rob Metcalfe finished on 120 and Nick Little on 108 with Jason Yates taking man of the match with a 28.90 average. Crawley lost just four legs in their match as Kevin Fishwick hit a maximum and took the man of the match award with a 29.47 average. Other maximums were struck by Crawley's Kevin Reilly and Adam Campbell and Roffey Royals' Chris Hatch and Nigel Panton. Mid Sussex beat Bognor Regis 6-3 with Dean Edlin (pictured) hitting a 180 and taking man of the match with a 25.91 average for the victors. His team mate Mark Harwood had a 136 finish and Bognor's Sam Abrehart checked out on 109. Portslade made it three wins on the trot as they came from 3-0 down to beat Brighton Newmarket 5-4 with Tim Norris firing in two 180s and Paul Burnett one for Portslade. Newmarket's Shaun Sandalls took man of the match in this one as he averaged 26.37. Finally, Broadbridge Heath won their second match in a row as they beat Bevendean Reds 6-3. The Reds' Peter Sopp won man of the match with a 25.05 average and Simon Parsons struck a maximum.   
Week 5 (Wednesday 17th June 2009) by Ian Holman
Nick EdwardsWorthing continued the terrific start to the season with another 9-0 win this week. Roffey Royals were the victims as Worthing extended their lead at the top of the table to nine points. James Greenfield won the man of the match award with a 30.06 average and there were 180s from Worthing's Paul Paice, Chris Walker and Lee Gladman and Roffey Royals' Ron Clarke and Nigel Panton. Worthing players also hit finishes of 111 (Ken Sowerby), 109 (Chris Walker) and 104 (Steve Pomeroy). Crawley remain unbeaten in second spot after recording a 5-4 win against Bevendean Reds. Kevin Fishwick had a 101 outshot as he took man of the match with a 27.83 average. Steve Mecrow hit two maximums for Crawley and there was one each for Bevendean Reds' Dave Fleming and Simon Parsons. Nick Edwards (pictured) claimed man of the match with a 24.71 average as Roffey beat Brighton Newmarket 6-3. Kez Botting hit a 155 finish in this match for Roffey and Jason Perry took out 114 for Brighton Newmarket. Rob Cross (Roffey) and Craig Deeley (Brighton Newmarket) both hit maximums. Portslade moved up to fourth in the table following their 5-4 win against Mid Sussex. In this match Mid Sussex pair Derek Furminger and Dean Edlin shared the man of the match with averages of 24.64. Dean Edlin and Dave Awcock both hit 180s for Mid Sussex. Broadbridge Heath recorded their first win of the season as they beat Bognor Regis 6-3 with Dave Bullen taking man of the match with a 23.41 average. Graeme Dutton hit two maximums for Bognor Regis.  
Week 4 (Wednesday 10th June 2009) by Ian Holman
Tony AyresWorthing increased their lead at the top of the table this week with a 9-0 win against Brighton Newmarket which included checkouts of 153 from Lee Gladman, 120 from Andy Stanford, 118 from Richard Stanford and 100 from John Johnstone plus maximums from Richard Stanford and Ken Sowerby with Gladman taking the man of the match award with a 27.83 average. Crawley remain unbeaten in second spot as they beat Bognor Regis 6-3 with Andy Gurr taking man of the match with a 27.72 average which included a 180. Chris Gatford hit a 180 and checked out on 153 for Bognor while Ian Holman took out 108 for Crawley. County players Kez Botting and Neil Smith both registered 26.84 averages to share the man of the match award as Roffey beat Mid Sussex 5-4. There were five maximums in this match, Bob Abbott, Nick Edwards and Jason Yates for Roffey and two from Derek Furminger for Mid Sussex while Roffey's Mark Page had a 111 finish. Tony Ayres (pictured) recorded another 30 plus average (30.06) which included a 180 as Roffey Royals beat Bevendean Reds 5-4. Andy Mason also hit a 180 for the Royals and their were finishes of 150 for Martin Baker (Bevendean Reds), 114 for Gary Kennard (Roffey Royals) and 109 for Darren Baker (Bevendean Reds). In the week's other match Portslade beat Broadbridge Heath 5-4 with Tim Norris taking man of the match with a 24.64 average, Steve Brown finishing on 108 for Portslade and Mick Short taking out 100 for Broadbridge Heath.   
Week 3 (Wednesday 3rd June 2009) by Ian Holman
James GreenfieldWorthing still hold a two point lead at the top of the West Division table after the third week of matches as they won 6-3 away to Bevendean Reds with James Greenfield (pictured) matching Tony Ayres average from last week of 31.31 to take man of the match. Peter Sopp (Bevendean Reds) checked out on 160 and Andy Stanford (Worthing) finished on 158. There were also maximum scores for Worthing's Richard Stanford and Bev Reds' Martin Baker and Dan Waller. Crawley also won 6-3 at Portslade with Colin Whiley hitting finishes of 134 and 109. Kevin Fishwick took man of the match for the second week running with a 23.85 average while Steve Horn finished on 108 on his Crawley debut while Andy MacIntosh struck a 180 for Portslade. Roffey were also 6-3 winners as they beat Broadbridge Heath with Jason Yates their man of the match with a 30.67 average. Neil Smith and Nick Edwards both hit 180s for Roffey and Dayle Smith hit one for Heath. Neil Smith also checked out on 104. Mid Sussex won 6-3 away to Brighton Newmarket with Gary Newman hitting his second maximum of the season and there were checkouts of 108 for Dean Edlin and 106 for Dan Grimmett for Mid Sussex and 133 for Mick Bird of the Newmarket. Edlin picked up man of the match with a 25.47 average. Roffey Royals made it two wins out of three as they came back from Bognor Regis with a 5-4 result. After his third consistently good performance, Ron Clarke finally won man of the match with a 28.90 average. Nigel Panton (Roffey Royals) and George Hibbert (Bognor Regis) both hit maximums in this match.
Week 2 (Wednesday 27th May 2009) by Ian Holman
Kevin FishwickJust two sides remain unbeaten after the second week of matches in the West Division. Worthing beat newcomers Mid Sussex 6-3 to lead the table with James Greenfield hitting his second maximum in two weeks for Worthing and Dave Mansell and Gary Newman both hitting the top score for Mid Sussex. Worthing's Andy Stanford won man of the match for the second week running, this time with an average of 27.33 which included a 109 checkout. Worthing's new signing Paul Paice checked out on 100 as did Mid-Sussex player Simon Harrison. Last seasons champions Crawley also remain unbeaten as they fought back from 4-1 down to beat rivals Roffey 5-4 with Roffey's Kez Botting checking out on 112. Kevin Fishwick (pictured) returned from holiday after missing the opening match of the season taking the deciding set 3-1 against Jason Yates. This not only gave Crawley victory but gave him man of the match with a 25.77 average. Other Crawley wins came from Colin Whiley, Kevin Reilly, Phil Smith and Adam Campbell. Roffey's wins came from Nick Edwards, Nick Little, Neil Smith and Rob Cross. Tony Ayres was in top form for his new side Roffey Royals having missed the season opener last week. Ayres had a 31.31 average while Ron Clarke and Nigel Panton had good averages for the second week running helping their side beat Portslade 6-3. County youth player Nathan Pearce hit a 180 in the match for the Royals as did Ron Clarke while Dan Bennett checked out on 110. Bevendean Reds picked up their first win of the campaign as they beat Bognor Regis 7-2 with Dan Waller taking man of the match with a 26.01 average that included a 116 checkout. Bognor's Matt Bourner hit a 180 while Peter Sopp checked out on 104 for the Reds. In the other match Brighton Newmarket edged past Broadbridge Heath 5-4 despite the Heath's Dave Bullen hitting a 180 in his man of the match performance (25.91 average) and a 123 checkout from Greg Upton and a 112 from Mick Short.
Week 1 (Wednesday 20th May 2009) by Ian Holman
Neil SmithThis years Super League kicked off with reigning champions Crawley beating Brighton Newmarket 6-3 with just one maximum recorded from man-of-the-match Colin Whiley of Crawley and a 110 finish from Newmarket's Jason Perry. Worthing started the season in strong fashion with a 7-2 win against Bognor Regis. Here there were maximums for Worthing's James Greenfield and Andy Stanford and Bognor's Gary Blackwood and Simon Casey-Rodgers while Richard Stanford checked out on 120 as Andy Stanford took man-of-the-match with a 27.51 average. Last season's West Division runners-up Roffey came back from 3-2 down to beat Roffey Royals 6-3 with Neil Smith (pictured) in great form for Roffey with the division's highest average of 28.36. The Royals' Nigel Panton checked out on 141. New side Mid Sussex started with a 7-2 win at Broadbridge Heath as their Dan Grimmett had the best winning average of 22.41, Derek Furminger checked out on 100 while Dean Edlin (Mid Sussex) and Steve Adsett (Broadbridge Heath) both hit 180s. In the week's other match Portsalde beat Bevendean Reds 6-3. Bev Reds' Russell Vanner won man-of-the-match in this one with a 24.63 average which included a 135 finish and Dan Waller had a 109 finish.
