Danny King Takes Summer League Singles Title

From a field of 40 entries Greyhound's Danny King (pictured) won the Crawley Summer League Singles competition held at Three Bridges Football Club beating Rugby Club's Larry Kavanah 2-0 in the final. King made his way to the final with wins against Graham Brook, Graeme Carden, Doug Mason and Mick Curren. Kavanah beat Pete Crossley, Stan Jackson, Rob Metcalfe and Tye Coward. Six 180s were hit on the night with one each from Tony Arnold, Mick Curren, Stan Jackson, Larry Kavanah, Dave Mansell and John Nisbet. Full results can be found here.

Greyhound Win Summer League Play-Offs (7th September 2007)

Greyhound won the Crawley Summer League Play-Offs at Three Bridges Football Club on Friday night with a 3-1 victory against Charcoal Burner in the Final, having beaten RS Bumbles 4-3 in the Semi-Finals after trailing 3-2. Charcoal Burner won their Semi-Final 4-3 against Rugby Club.

The Semi-Final tie between Greyhound and RS Bumbles saw the Trebles and Pairs shared. Wins for Danny King, Andy Gurr and Pete Crossley were enough to send Greyhound through. Bob Abbott and Stan Jackson won for Bumbles. There were 180's for Nigel Panton (Greyhound) and Bob Abbott and a 100 finish from Stan Jackson (RS Bumbles).

In the other Semi-Final the Trebles and Pairs were also shared. The Burner then raced into a 4-1 lead with wins from Lee Gladman, Dave Fry and Richard Stanford. Tommy Lewis and Mick Clarke won the remaining games for the Rugby Club. Alex Whiteside (Rugby Club) and Richard Stanford (Charcoal Burner) hit maximums and Alex Whiteside also checked out on 120.

Rugby Club took 3rd place in their play-off against the 2005 champions, RS Bumbles 3-2. Rugby Club wins came from Mick Clarke, Andy Mason and Alex Whiteside. Mick Curren and Paul Burrows won for RS Bumbles. Alex Whiteside hit his second 180 of the evening and there was also one for Tommy Lewis. Paul Burrows hit the night's highest check-out of 138.

In the Final. Lee Gladman was the only winner for last year's champions Charcoal Burner, with Andy Gurr, Danny King and Pete Crossley winning for Greyhound. Danny King also hit a 180.

Three Bridges A won the outstanding game in the league with a 6-2 win away to Legion Lancers.

Week 11 Round-up (31st August 2007) by Dave Miles

Last Friday saw the final matches of the League stage reaching a conclusion. Leaders Greyhound had earlier claimed one of the four play-off places, and in their final match they took on bottom side Legion Lancers and duly won 8-0, Rugby Club stay second after their 8-0 beating of Barmy Army. The top performance of the week came in this match with Andy Mason (pictured) grabbing a brace of maximums and there was also one from team mate Larry Kavanah. Reigning champions the Charcoal Burner finished third, and ended Bridges slim hopes of making the Play-offs when beating them 6-2, Lee Gladman struck his sixth 180 of the season for the Champions and Graeme Carden checked out on 115. RS Bumbles took the final play-off spot following a 6-2 victory over the Railway Club, with the Bees Mick Curren and Stan Jackson both on target with maximums and Tony Arnold taking a 10 dart leg and a 115 finish. Longley's & Us Lot both posted 5-3 victories, but both lost the 1001 team game to the Con Mates & Three Bridges A respectably.
In next Fridays play-offs the Greyhound will play RS Bumbles in one Semi-Final, while the Charcoal Burner take on the Rugby Club in the other. All the action gets under way from 8.15pm at Three Bridges Football Club.

RS Bumbles need a point from their final game of the season against Railway Club to secure a play-off place alongside Greyhound and Rugby Club. In the top game of the evening, league leaders Greyhound took all three points against second placed Rugby Club 5-3 with Mick Clarke notching his fourth 180 of the season for Rugby Club and Danny King his first for Greyhound. There was also a 120 finish from Colin Whiley (Greyhound) and a 118 from Kez Botting (Greyhound). RS Bumbles won 6-2 but missed their chance to go second as they dropped the team game against Barmy Army, Tony Arnold hitting a 180 for Bumbles. Charcoal Burner move up to third after an 8-0 win against bottom side Legion Lancers. Fifth placed Bridges also won

8-0 against Three Bridges A with Rob Metcalfe hitting a 180 and a 110 finish. They must now take all three points from their final game away to last season's champions Charcoal Burner to snatch a play-off place. Railway Club secured a sixth place finish with a 6-2 win away to Con Mates and finally Andy Baller (pictured) hit two maximums for Longley C to make it three in three weeks as they took all three points away to Us Lot from a 5-3 victory.

No change at the top, as all the top five sides recorded comprehensive wins in the search for the four play-off places.   Leaders Greyhound registered their third consecutive 8-0 victory when beating Us Lot, Kez Botting (pictured) celebrated his Sussex selection with a 180 for the Tinsley Green side. Second placed Rugby Club matched Greyhound's score in beating the Railway Club, with Alex Whiteside and the in form Mick Clarke posting maximums. Not to be out done RS Bumbles won 8-0 against Three Bridges A to stay in third place, Graham Martins 119 checkout for the Bees being the only highlight, while 4th placed Charcoal Burner again produced an 8-0 win when beating the Con Mates. Lee Gladman struck his 5th maximum of the season for the Burner, while 180s were also hit by the Con Mates Roly Ratcliffe and Jim Relph. Burners, Richard Stanford recently tied the knot, and celebrated by checking out on 139, the second highest finish this season. Just outside the play-off positions are Bridges, they must rely on one of the top four slipping up over the next two fixtures in order to gatecrash the play-offs, they walloped bottom side Legion Lancers 7-1, special mention in this match goes to Barbara Hobden, the Legion Lancers player notched her first ever 180. In the final fixture Longley C took all 3 points when beating the Barmy Army 5-3.

With just four weeks to go the top four sides are beginning to move away from the rest of the pack as they all picked up points this week. Leaders Greyhound had a comprehensive won 8-0 win at home to Con Mates with John Nisbet checking out on 112 and Kez Botting 108. The Rugby Club beat Bridges 7-1 with Mick Clarke (pictured) hitting a 180. There was a 117 finish from Larry Kavanah and a 115 finish from Tommy Lewis. In the night's big clash RS Bumbles drew 4-4 with current champions Charcoal Burner. Bumbles took the bonus point from the 1001 team game. Bob Abbott making his debut for the Bees hit a 180 and Tony Arnold (RS Bumbles) checked-out on 130. Also hitting the magic score was Longley C's Andy Baller as they drew 4-4 at The Railway Club, who grabbed the bonus 1001 team game. Finally at the Labour Club, Barmy Army put last week's 8-0 defeat behind them as they beat Three Bridges A 5-3 but dropped a point in the team game and Us Lot picked up their first win of the season and maximum points 7-1 against strugglers Legion Lancers.

The top four sides strengthened their play-off chances with all four winning convincingly this week. Leaders Greyhound shot down the early season leaders Barmy Army 8-0, with Pete Crossley hitting his 3rd 180 of the campaign. Second placed Rugby Club beat Us Lot 7-1, helped by a Larry Kavanah maximum & Tommy Lewis`s 116 checkout.  Reigning Champions Charcoal Burner are 3rd following a 6-2 win over the Railway Club, whose chances of making the playoffs are now slim. Dave Fry (pictured) & Graham Brook both knocked in maximums for the Champions. RS Bumbles are 4th after whitewashing Legion Lancers 8-0, Stan Jackson's 180 being the bees highlight. Bridges kept their play-off chances alive by taking all three points in their 5-3 victory over Con Mates. Finally, Three Bridges A earned their first point when winning the 1001 team game during their clash with Longley C. Longley's won the match 5-3.

Just one point separates the top four teams after this weeks results with The Greyhound replacing RS Bumbles at the top after beating them 7-1. The win included the bonus point for the 1001 team game. John Nisbet recorded his second 180 in two weeks for The Greyhound. Pete Crossley (Greyhound) had a 120 check-out and Dave Critchley hit a 180 for RS Bumbles. The Rugby Club stay second after losing the team game in their 6-2 win over Longley C with Tommy Lewis (Rugby Club) (pictured) hitting two 180's to take his tally to three for the season. Last season's champions The Charcoal Burner move up to third with a maximum points 6-2 victory against Barmy Army. Richard Stanford (Charcoal Burner) hit the weeks best check-out of 137 and there were 180's for Lee Gladman (Charcoal Burner) (his fourth of the season) and Ty Coward (Barmy Army).. Bridges stay fifth despite losing the team game in their 5-3 win against Us Lot. The Railway Club and Con Mates both picked up three points each from their wins over the bottom two sides Three Bridges A and Legion Lancers.

RS Bumbles continued their good start to the season to stay top of the league with an 8-0 win over Longley C. The Rugby Club also won 8-0 against Legion Lancers and are now up to second, just a point behind the leaders. The Greyhound picked up a 5-3 win against former leaders Bridges despite losing the bonus point in the team game. There were 180's from John Nisbet (Greyhound) and Paul Chesworth (Bridges). In-form Rob Metcalfe checked out on 140 for Bridges.. Last season's winners The Charcoal Burner moved into the play-off positions with an 8-0 whitewash of Us Lot with Lee Gladman (pictured) notching his third 180 of the campaign and Dave Mansell hitting a 120 checkout. The Railway Club picked up maximum points against Barmy Army after a 5-3 win and Con Mates took their first win with a 6-2 result against Three Bridges A.

RS Bumbles continued their good start to the season, collecting all three points in their 6-2 win over last week's leaders Bridges and replace them at the top. Mick Curren was in good form hitting three 140's in the pairs game and a 180 in the team game. The Greyhound beat The Railway Club 7-1 to go second with Colin Whiley hitting his second maximum in two weeks. Pete Crossley 120, Andy Gurr 110 & John Nisbet 108 all posted high finishes for the Tinsley Green side. The Rugby Club move up to third after an 8-0 whitewash against struggling Three Bridges A with Tommy Lewis (pictured) and Alex Whiteside both hitting 180's for the Rugby Club. Reigning champions The Charcoal Burner are poised to move into a play-off position after a 7-1 victory over Longley C with Lee Gladman and Dave Mansell both striking maximums. Barmy Army got back to winning ways with a 7-1 win away to Legion Lancers with The Legion's Chris Maton hitting a 180. Finally, the match between Us Lot and Con Mates ended in a 4-4 draw with Steve Clark (Us Lot) and Roland Ratcliffe (Con Mates) both hitting 180's. Con Mates picked up the bonus point from the team game.

Bridges hold on to top spot in the Crawley Summer Darts League after a dramatic fight back in their team game against Barmy Army at the Labour Club. Leading 4-3 going into the final game of the evening, Bridges were back in the 300s with The Army already down on a double. A 140 from Rob Metcalfe gave Bridges a glimmer of hope and after a further nine darts of missed doubles from the hosts, Darren Schollar hit a double ten to claim all three points and leave the Labour Club side devastated. Earlier in the evening Ty Coward hit a magnificent 137 check-out for Barmy Army. RS Bumbles are a point behind Bridges in second spot after their 6-2 victory over Us Lot. Mark Stevens hit a 180 for Bumbles and Dave O’Neill checked out on 114 for Us Lot. The Greyhound and The Rugby Club picked up 8-0 wins over Longley C and Con Mates respectively with Pete Crossley hitting his second maximum in two weeks for The Greyhound. The Railway Club got back on track after a defeat last-week and are currently just outside the play-off positions after a 6-2 win over Legion Lancers with Nick Burgess hitting a 180 for The Railway. Finally The Charcoal Burner had an 8-0 walk-over as their opponents Three Bridges A failed to raise a side.

After week ones great victory over the Greyhound, last Friday the reigning Summer League Champions the Charcoal Burner suffered a surprise 5-3 reverse at home to the Rugby Club [formally Lowfield Legion], Andy Mason (pictured) was in good form for the Rugby Club, banging in a maximum as his side also won the 1001 team game to take all 3 pts available. Both the RS Bumbles and Greyhound took all 3 pts during there 7-1 wins over the Con Mates & Three Bridges respectively, Paul Burrows 114 & Alan Burling 110 were the Bees highlights, while the Greyhounds heroes were Pete Crossley & Colin Whiley who hit 180s and John Nisbet who checkout on 112. Bridges head the table after picking up maximum points in their 6-2 win over the Railway Club, after last weeks leaders Barmy Army dropped a point to Us Lot, they lost the team game but won the match 5-3, Warren Grantham posted a 117 finish for Us Lot. Longley C beat Legion Lancers 6-2 to pick up their first points of the season leaving the Legion, Con Mates & Three Bridges pointless after the opening two fixtures.

Week 1 Round-up (15th June 2007) by Dave Miles

Last Friday around the towns dart boards, the opening fixtures of the new Summer darts season were played, with 12 teams contesting this years competition. During the 1st round of matches no fewer than six maximum 180s were posted...The Charcoal Burner, last years Champions had a tough task when visiting the Greyhound, and with both sides bristling with some of the areas top marksmen a high quality match was ensured. After the opening Trebles & Doubles were shared, the five Singles games went in favour of the Burner 4-1, the vital 1001 team game went to the hosts leaving the Burner winners 5-3. Lee Gladman & Graham Brook both hit maximums, while Dave Mansell 121, Andy Gurr 114 & Brook 110 all recorded high finishes. Last years runners up, the RS Bumbles started with a 4-4 draw against the Rugby Club at Lowfield Legion. Two more 180s were hit during this game, one each for Mick Clarke & Mick Curren. The 1001 team game was won by the Bees thus earning a bonus point. Best win of the week came for the Barmy Army at the Conservative Club, they beat hosts Con Mates 7-1, picking up the maximum 3 pts available per match. Steve Souter making a rare appearance for the Army side poked home a 180 in celebration. Bridges also took maximum points from their 6-2 victory over Longley C at Three Bridges F.C. with newly signed Ian Holman marking his debut with a maximum, some consolation for Longley`s came via John Ushers 117 checkout. The Railway Club beat Us Lot [ Labour Cobras ] 5-3, they also won the 1001 team game to pick up all 3 points. Legion Lancers match with Three Bridges A was postponed till a later date.
